A huge monitor is useless...

I have a large monitor in order to display a lot of information on my screen, but some web designers (I won't mention any names) are now designing their sites for "mobile-viewing only" making efficient viewing of information impractical. One popular auction website I use a lot (again, I won't mention any names) now has started with a format where I can only see two of the hundreds of items on my watch-list on my screen.  Having to scroll and scroll to see the listings closing in the next few hours isn't as efficient as being able to just "glance" at the screen with most of that information displayed. I understand catering to the mobile user, but why do it at the expense of the desktop user?
