It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen one. Actually got to hold it for a brief moment. Pretty cool!

    Cool, always wondered what those were called...

    Probably had a 7-8" wingspan, it was almost as big as my hand. A couple birds were pecking at it so it couldn't fly away when I got to it. I picked it up and walked it to an open area and it caught a good breeze and took off.

    And without any intelligence just by sheer luck they developed the appearance of eyes to ward off predators, we all know the moths/butterflies that didn't all died off. LOL  Wait wait Birds pecking at it I guess the eyes didn't work LOL

    Thanks, we don't see those out here in the west, but I do remember them from the Midwest.  Named for the Cyclops of Greek myth.

    This guy was on my door in May.   We get them every Spring.   Beautiful, magical animal.

    Last year I saw a "Promethea Moth".  Wings had the appearance of 2 fish, very interesting moth!

     we just caught a glimpse of one a few night ago it flew by the porch light a few seconds then off into the trees 
     seldom see them . one handsome moth ,
        some times you just have to stop and be amazed  admire at all the marvelous creations from the living varieties  to the landscape  we are surrounded by   sure makes me feel small and humble
