First day with hearing aids
And I don't think I like them. I don't believe their doing what I need them to do. The doctor said there's nothing she can do at first about the tinnitus but in a couple weeks she can try to make that adjustment and maybe it will help and maybe not.

I was having problems with mine until I opted to buy the more expensive model. You really do get what you pay for in hearing aids.

I can predict that NObody likes theirs on the first day. Things are so different that it is annoying. And they can be uncomfortable.
However, but, and in spite of that, wear them. Every day. For a month. Promise me that and you'll report back with a wholly different opinion.

i got some very nice hearing aids from the VA several months ago. found out i didnt like them very much either. havent worn them in months. mentioned this to my regular general practitioner and he said that was a very normal reaction to them. im not sure i will ever use them again. 0 -
I’d wonder if your hearing isn’t so bad that you wouldn’t love hearing whet you’ve missed for years.
When I first got mine They were a bit uncomfortable but being able to hear what people said (and not relying on reading lips!) made the initial discomfort palatable. It could also be that they didn’t make the ear canal mold properly. My first pair were “in the canal” meaning the entire thing fit inside. They had to make a mold of my ear in order to get it to fit properly. Anything else meant they didn’t fit and would cause pain.
I love my hearing aids now. Couldn’t do without them...0 -
My hearing aid guy is really first rate. Also very honest. He told me that if I wasn't going to wear them 10 to 12 hours a day to not buy them. He said it would be a waste of my $2,000. He also said to make sure I see him every three months so he can "tune" them. I recently had my second "tune up" and I could tell the difference after he was done. I wont even try to repeat all the technical things he said but he was very pleased when he plugged things into his computer and saw that I was averaging just a little more than 12 hours per day.
Like you I wasn't happy the first few weeks but I ended up going in for a check on something else after about 30 days. He want ahead and did a tuning at that point. Big difference!! My favorite part of wearing my aids is that I can hear the birdies chirping so much better in the morning. I really like the birds at my feeders and hearing their songs much better is a big deal to this crusty old fart. 0 -
Just wait until someone is 40 ft. away digging into a bag of potato chips ......you'll either cuss some one out about the racket they're making or return the hearing aids , maybe even doing both 0 -

If you needed em I would say ya owe it to yourself to wear them more than a few hours, or days. Give it a week or two at least. Good thing ya have to read this, you probably wouldn't hear me tell you 0 -

I am on my third set the first ones I wore quite a bit, the second ones most of the time, both of them were in the ear. This set are over the ear models, I wear them everyday,12- 16 hours. They are three years old and have had no real problems other than a few adjustments. The audiologist thought I didn't understand that I was to raise my hand when I heard the tone. One on one I can do good with most people's voices. With back ground noise I couldn't understand much of anything. They aren't perfect in a room full of people talking, I still can't understand lots of people. Sure better than not hearing anything, much. Wear the suckers and you will get used to them and want to wear them, all the time. 0 -
You lost your hearing over a long period of time. Your brain learned not to hear certain frequencies. When you get your hearing aids, you suddenly hear sounds you hadn't heard for years. Mine like to drove me nuts the first couple of weeks but now I can't live without em. Give em a chance, your wife will thank you. 0 -

Don't give up. My grandfather needed them and it took awhile to get them adjusted right. It can be a process of adjusting and getting used to them.....then adjusting more, until they are optimal. 0 -
I'm on my 3rd set & wouldn't be without them. My biggest mistake was not getting them 15 years earlier. Each time I upgraded & I don't regret spending the money. This pair should have been $6800, but I have a VSP hearing plan. The audiologist wasn't happy but honored the $2600 discount. Like everyone has said, give them a chance. They're not perfect, but neither are eye glasses, etc. Start with just while watching TV; it's amazing what you're missing. Go for the adjustments as it takes several to get it right. You won't be sorry. 0 -
i do not believe anything can help giant screaming tinnitus 24-7-365......no longer listen to any music and try to ignore it while saying "WHAT??"....tell the wife to get in front of me and do NOT mumble from the other room ...she luvs that 0 -
Ditto for me, spasm. Screaming tea-kettle tinnitus for some 60 years now. Wife is a teacher of the deaf but still thinks I should be able to understand her when she mumbles from another room with the water running and TV on. Got my hearing aids from the VA about 18 months ago. I came out of the testing booth and his only question was, "What color aids do you want?"
I just sent them back for troubleshooting and repair because the left one died. I take an occasional "day off" but I do wear them most of the time. After a while, they DO seem to help with the tinnitus, but I don't know how - and I know a little bit about this stuff.

Sheesh, an $895 "restocking fee"??? She's trying to recoup her money from selling them to you, Henry! Don't give her the satisfaction!I have to agree with the other people who have suggested to keep wearing them for longer than just one day, though. I got mine back when I was a youngster (junior high school, I believe) and they made everything LOUD! It took me quite a while to get used to all the extra sounds that I hadn't been able to hear before, just learning what those "noises" were!
I get tinnitus too, but mine doesn't sound nearly as bad as yours. I've found that if I focus on other sounds, it helps me to ignore the "broken screaming airline" that Smitty mentioned. Other peoples voices, pets playing, even trying to hear birds "talking" to each other, just something beyond that sound inside your head. I don't know if it will help you, but give it a try. Same with the hearing aids ... please give them a fair trial before you decide they're too much trouble. Just my two cents ...Big Al ( btw, what manufacturer and model did you get, if you don't mind me asking? I'm always curious about new ones and, with my hearing aid guy retiring, I need to find a new audiologist/hearing aid specialist, one of these days! )

Rocky, this might get us (well okay, you!) into trouble with your wife, especially if she's fluent in sign language. If you know the sign for "understand", then you can "modify" it, let's say, to get your point across to her. I'll post the video below, if you don't already know the sign. However, if you "modify" it by using your middle finger instead of your index finger, while shaking your head, she will realize that you really "don't understand!"

I've had ZREO issues with my Miracle Ear unit. First night I had mine, I went to the Grandkids band concert and it was great. The next week, I spent 4 days in training 8 hours a day again with ZERO complaints.
I haven't been using mine like I should since I'm not amongst people much these days. I can tell the crickets are getting louder again and probably should get the device back in rather than not.
I don't have a Miracle Ear compatible phone so have a single unit so I can use a bluetooth earbud in the other ear.0 -
I’m in the give them time camp. Road raced motorcycles, hunted, and target shooting for years without hearing
protection. I’ve had them for 3 years now and put them in as soon as I wake up. At first I couldn’t believe how many birds were in my back yard!0 -
My mom lost a portion of her hearing when she had rheumatic fever as a kid. She put off hearing aids until all of us kids were grown. May have been her way of staying sane.
Anyway, she finally got them. She struggled at first and then loved them. She did discover that in the woods, when deer hunting, she could actually hear one approaching, which for her was a huge bonus. She always took a book and would forget to look up.
