There are plenty of "for the price point" caveats throughout this review. Does it compete with higher dollar guns? No. Does it do the job you'll need it to do with the requisite base level adequacy? Yes. If all you have is $250 and you need a self defense weapon, this is for you.

Personally I take these internet gun reviews, with a large dose of salt. I would be allot more convinced. If the reviewer had obtained 3 different pistols, from different sources. And put them through his various tests.
With a entry level personal protection handgun, like this Taurus. The only thing I would be concerned with, is reliability. Put 300 rounds of carry ammo, each through all 3 guns. If all 3 went through the 900 rounds. I would be convinced, that this Taurus is the greatest thing since sliced bread.0 -

A few points for consideration - a few observations...
I like Dan Wesson revolvers - the 15VH6 is an incredible design - and they are not / never have been cheap or low hanging fruit...
I have had 4 of them - and over the lifetime of production the gun has been made and the company owned by a ridiculous number or parent companies or investment groups...
Depending on what year and under whose auspices your Dan Wesson was made you can own a Swiss watch that never fails or a useless paperweight that never works - did not work new and you can throw money at and rotate amongst gunsmiths and it will never work or function reliably - I would not trust my life on one...
There are expensive top quality 1911's that out of the box and brand new don't run right - despite the design being over 110 years old and being one of the most copied and explored designs of all time.
Taurus has had periods of production were the guns were nearly perfectly reliable - as reliable as most other guns for sale of similar design...
Taurus has had periods of production were the quality control was non existent and the guns unreliable even if tuned and massaged...
The model 85 EDC package gun pictured here is mine - was purchased new for my mother - was a distributor specific package that came with lots of accessories and multiple grips and speed loaders and holsters...
The gun runs like a trooper and even when you pick it up and handle it and inspect it you can observe that it's a well made item...
I have handled other examples from different production runs or time periods that did not run well and I was not pleased with the fit and finish...
I have had 4 Taurus pop up barrel .22's and .25's...
Two ran great two would jam and fall apart.
When I was living my gun shop lifestyle we ordered and sold a ton of the above pictured 85 package guns - because I knew personally that they ran right and were well made and reliable - or I would not have bought it for my mother and would not still own it.
Right now Taurus is making some great gun that look good and run good - but most of us have owned a large number of guns and have had guns that we passed on because they just would not work - and some guns that are not considered fine arms like the highpoint but surprised us because they worked great...
I trust my gun pictured here - and if you own a gun intended or EDC or home defense that your life might depend on you should test it out and be certain it's reliable - you should practice with the gun and break it in and learn how it handles.
So yes some Taurus guns are reliable as the best out there and some are plain awful.
I also understand the tendency to be poisoned against a gun that you paid good money for and ended up with a lemon and a pile of dog snot - requiring you to replace it after tinkering with it or trying to get the gun fixed under warranty.

All gunmakers occasionally turn out a lemon. Unfortunately my experience from when I sold them was that Taurus lemons occurred more frequently. They do have a good warranty but needing to use the warranty doesn't necessarily build confidence. Bob 3 -
I have a Taurus 85, 669 and 92 AFS. All purchased mid 90's and I think they were making damn good guns back then.
I can't speak to their newer guns, but my 669 is more accurate than my Ruger or S&W 357's....0 -

If you want to go for the lowest price with ultimate reliability, go with Hi Point. I would trust my life with one. Plus they are made in the USA.
Tahwrus is unreliable. Empirically speaking: The most problematic handguns at the ranges I shoot at are Tawruses. Just last week a rangemaster was hit in the neck with a piece of a copper jacket from an out of time Tawrus that was new. Tawrus is not made in the USA.0 -
have a taurus 94, I like it better than the berretta only because of the safety, trigger may not be as good but it does go bang everytime and I can hit what I shoot at, only thing is it is heavy, I have to use shoulder holster for it and that is almost impossible in summertime from the sounds of it I must have gotten the only good one they made........... 0 -
A local sporting goods store sends sales flyers quarterly.I saved some of them from the late 80s and early 90s for my sons who were young at the time.I was looking through them at how much gun prices have risen the last 30 years.Most stuff has risen at least 50% except Taurus.They can be bought today for close to the price they were back then. 0 -
I recently bought 2 g-2's, 1-.40 s&w and 1-9mm just to try them. About $250 ea. I was VERY impressed with the trigger pulls on both, light take-up and crisp let-off. I gave 1 to my son to try and he said the "trigger is better than my tuned 1911". both have run well with 1 failure to fire with the .40 (dud primer)and you can double snap a hard primer. sights are adjustable, three dot white. While they aren't 'target' guns, they shoot accurately and (after reading the instructions) take down easy. Would I take one to a gun fight? (that can't be avoided)............you betcha. 0 -
I have two Taurus revolvers, both .357, one of them I have had for well over thirty years, they are both reliable and deadly accurate.There are a lot of gun snobs out there that think the only workable revolvers are Colt and S&W they are wrong the Taurus revolver is as good as any.

I've had a few Taurus thru the years without to much luck I would have to send a lot of rounds thru it before I would carry it

Over the years I have owned three Taurus products. The 1911 was pretty iffy. I kept the frame and used it with a .22 conversion kit. It was far more reliable in that set up...…..I finally got rid of the frame when I bought a better one.
The PT-92 I owned went back to the factory a couple times and they never did fix it.....it was reliable but was 4" low and
about 7" right at 10 yards....Got rid of that to a guy looking for a parts gun....
I bought a revolver back during that period in the Obama years where ammo got hard to find...…..but there was always
.17HMR on the shelves so I bought one of their revolvers and so far it has been OK for an inexpensive gun....
Overall my thought on most of Taurus products is no matter how much you shine a turd, it is still a turd...!0
