If things end up going to hell in a hand basket, which State would be best to live in??

My wife has been foaming at the mouth lately.  She loves this country more than most people born here.  According to her, our country is now more communistic than Russia is.  Russians now are all about money, getting it anyway they can.  She says she would never live in Russia again.  So what concerns her is what country do we move to if the commies win the election in the fall.  Lord have mercy that woman hates commies!!   >:) 

My answer was that we didn't have to leave the country, just move to N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Nebraska, maybe Kansas.  Maybe Alaska.  States not important enough to interest the elites, cold enough to keep out the riff raff, a long ways from anywhere a commie/lib wants to be and good decent like minded people for neighbors.  I lean towards southwestern South Dakota or northwestern Nebraska but before that day ever comes a lot of research will need to be done.  Hopefully that day will never come.


So if you felt the need to move to get away from where you are at now where would you move to??

    I already did that about 16 years ago. I left Kommie KA, and moved to Idaho.

    Only been to Coeur d' Alene for one day but it appears to be one of the most beautiful places I have seen. No idea how it would be to live there.

    Minus the 2-3 bigger cities ND/SD are probably the most Libertarian in the union.


    Would be happy to add most on this forum to our population but really, we are good right now.

    I am comfortable living in my current state of confusion. I am NOT happy with this state being kaliFORNICATed, by people running from what they hated (politics) bringing it here, and implementing those same cancerous ideals here. But I digress.

    Maybe you want to take a look at how many Coronavirus cases/deaths have occurred in states that you might be thinking of moving. The states lowest on the list of infected people/deaths are Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, Hawaii. With 20 or less deaths per state. (as of today 6/20/2020 as per the New York Times list) There is a reason for those numbers. Are you looking for peace and quiet? Guam and the Virgin Islands are there as well, but are those a possibility? Along with Alaska and Hawaii?

    Look at taxes? Wyoming has NO state income tax. At 4%, the state's sales tax is one of the lowest of any state with a sales tax, though counties can charge an additional rate of up to 2%. 
    Montana has a progressive state income tax with a top rate of 6.9%. Sales tax rate is currently 0%. Montana is one of only five states without a general sales tax.

    Lots of other information to consider, these were just a few I looked at years ago. Well other than the Covid crap.

    We're strongly considering it.  The wife works at RAAD, she could still commute a couple days a week if we move over the Giles line.  


    How about Idaho? It seems over looked but isn't Idaho mostly rural and pretty conservative?

    I would not move, I have a easy access to good potable water.  Plenty of land to grow crops and harvest meat.  The climate is good for growing things and not too cold in the winters.  Living on a sparsely populated dirt road with easy ability to block it is a plus.  Alaska was a dream lifestyle but the drawbacks for any long term survival are almost insurmountable.

    I'm set here in my own little corner. County seat has largest population and comes in at less than 2000 people. I live off a gravel road, connected to a county blacktop that leads to a state highway, ten miles from town. Town has a clinic, a drug store, feed stores, grocery, restaurants, and gas stations with non-ethanol gas. We have a veterinarian. There are meat processors for those who raise their own meat or deer hunt but don't want to process it. We have a couple of gun shops. Low crime. Most of what we do have is meth and the crime that goes with it.

    Nearby county has a VA hospital and two civilian hospitals. The population for the county next door is less than 50k and the largest town in it comes in at 17k.

    My little town has a spring fed river, a national forest, a couple of large lakes, and multiple creeks, perfect for hunting and fishing.

    I have well and septic so the only utility is electricity. I'm planning on installing solar/wind to go totally off grid.

    Winters aren't horrendous. Summers do get hot, upper 80's to mid 90's with humidity. That's where the creeks and river come into play.

    Just about everyone has a boat, a 4-wheeler and a truck. Local farmers set up around the courthouse circle with their produce. Others sell their beef locally.

    My brother and I share 70 acres so we hunt and fish here on the farm. Neighbors all have similar acreage so we are all spaced well. Two creeks are within 4-wheeler distance. Perfect for swimming in the summer and fishing year round.

    Occasionally a bit of land or home in town will come on the market. So, yep, I'm good.
