Look who showed up at my chicken coop roof

He was not afraid of me at all.  A friend said he was a homing pigeon probably stopping by for a quck snack of the cracked corn I feed the chickens.

    When it flies, does it have a white back? We have some around here that I have never seen before that look like that.

    Homers do indeed usually have bands, otherwise it is likely a wild one.  For the record, they are actually called blue rock doves.  Sounds a lot classier than church pigeon.

    breast out the bird
    wrap breasts in bacon
    place in crock pot with onions and beef base/water
    when cooked, remove breasts, make gravy with liquid, serve over egg noodles

    He is still hanging around he does have a white back.  He likes his new home so I suppose he will hang around for the cracked corn the chickens get.

    I had this happen a few years back. It was definitely a homer as it had a band. I fed it for a week and also tried to catch so I could get info off the band. I figure it was just taking a vacation because one morning it was gone. No feathers or any sign of a predator related encounter .

    I've always heard those birds called Mileormore Birds around these parts.
