10/22 trigger upgrade ?????
Not a real fan of semi auto 22's, but figured I should have one in case a need every arose to have to gun down a small herd of vermin attacking me. I have an old custom job that someone cut down a Winchester model 52 barrel and fit it to the 10/22 receiver. Thing shoots pretty good, but the trigger sucks bad on it. Lots of creep, and breaks close to 7# all the time. Looking at the Ruger BX upgrade trigger, and was wondering if it's worth the money, or is it close to the original factory one? Thoughts and opinions please.....

Some like the BX trigger, but I couldn’t tell much difference. I installed one on a new takedown 10/22 and was disappointed. 0 -
How does it shoot? Before dropping the cash.
I'd lighten/swap out the spring and while the things apart polish the bits. Now that's cheap and may do what you're looking for. I'd rather get a premo drop in instead of spending for halfaass fix that maybe money wasted. Volquartsen or KIDD trigger is the way I'd go (I went KIDD because I thought them as a mom and pop operation which I liked).

The Volquartsen TG2000 is probably the best drop-in unit. The issue is that it costs $250+, which is a lot of coin to spend on a rifle which doesn't cost much more. You can save money (about 50%) by just buying the trigger internals and installing them in your existing trigger group. The BX trigger is the most popular upgrade; primarily because it costs under $100, but as Jimdeer said, the improvement over the stock trigger isn't all that much. Like Jim, I put a BX on my own 10/22 takedown and I was equally disappointed with the results. 0 -
As above Tod, the Volquartsen is by far imo the best drop in there is. I tried the drop in BX and really say, whatever. I wouldn't invest much in it and get a trcked out job if you want to jump off the stump. The built ones are fantastic, I have a takedown for the camping, ect. and I love those with the BX 25-25 mags.. 0 -

if you can find the BX for under $60.00 then yes it will make a big difference, but if you are willing to do your own "gunsmithing" look at the KIDD trigger parts upgrade kit, it is around $100.00 and makes a world of difference light trigger my two current kit triggers break at 2.25 and 2.5 lbs with no creep just a real clean break. I had another Kidd kit that broke at under 2lb, but traded the 10-22 for something worth much more.
If you don't want to fool around with the trigger group , Brimstone gunsmithing does several upgrades for very little money, so you just have to send the trigger group to him and wait for it to return. see his website...Brimstone Gunsmithing , of Camas, Washington0 -
If you don't want to spend a gazillion bucks on the Volquartsen or Kidd then I would get the BX. Unlike others on here I noticed a lot of difference from the factory trigger. Like you I really did not need another 22, let alone a semi. I came into a carbine for an absurdly low price and since I am not a fan I did a build with it a couple of years ago. I got a BX for next to nothing here on GB and it breaks right at 2 1/2 lbs which is way better than the 7+ lbs of the original. I have tried a few of the high priced replacements but in my case I don't think they would help me much more than the BX. Bob 0 -
Thanks for the answers guys. I really don't want to sink a bunch of $$ into a trigger that's worth more than the gun, so I guess I'll go with a spring kit for a few bucks and see where that gets me. I did find this, and that's what got me thinking about the bx trigger.

That's about 40 bucks more than I paid at auction. They didn't put BX in the description so I took a chance and no one else either noticed it or was interested. I get lucky on GB once in a while.😁 Bob 3 -
Buy the BX and don't look back.
I'm sure the Volquartsons and Kidds are great, but changing my 48 year old trigger group out to a BX, allowed my Grandson to go from reasonably accurate to deadly accurate with my old 10/22 Sporter and at a much cheaper price.

I bought the BX recently and really love it. For the 80 bucks I paid it really helped the 10-22 shoot a lot better. I have the Vorquartsen trigger in my Ruger 22 match pistol but could not justify the cost of one of their 10-22 triggers.You will be happy with the BX.

I bought a 10/22 a little over 45 years ago, I finally decided enough of this stock trigger, I bought a Volquartsen, just drops right in.
I should have done it 45 years ago.
The difference is like night and day.

As long as we're name dropping......I put a Hornet Custom trigger in a custom job for my grandson. I asked them to put a red anodized trigger and mag release on it. No problem. Trigger is around 3#. Drops in place of the factory assembly and good to go. This one was $150. The have more and less expensive choices as well 3
