Yeah, looks like he’s learning just fine. But is he holding that rod upside down? Most reels have reversible cranks if he’s a lefty.

I've introduced a lot of folks to fishing.   Keep it fun and you're doing everything right.

When it comes to bass there is a lot of information.   One piece that will payoff is slower is usually better, note the word usually.  That applies to all seasons, depths etc.  Some crank and spinner baits have to fished faster than others.

My oldest son got into bass fishing local tournaments on the Ohio river.   He asked me to show him a few things.    Keep in mind straight bass fishing is not my number one type of fishing.   Most of my fishing with him had been for pan fish in the lakes and small mouth bass in the creeks.  We done some large mouth bass fishing but not a lot of it.   I asked him if he wanted a chance to win the tourneys or did he just want to throw lures.   He was puzzled by what I meant but said of course he wanted to win if we could.  He was about 21 at the time.  I told him okay we'll fish , but we fish  my way.  He didn't care much for my way,  the slow steady approaches, but changed his mind when he seen the better fish it produced.

I live just north of you on Lake Panasoffkee. It’s a premium bass lake. We have tournaments all the time and many of the tournaments are strictly for kids. Come and see me and I’ll let him fish from my sea wall. About a month ago they caught a 13 pounder in the canal right next to my house. They have tagged several bass in our lake and the big bass tagged will pay 10,000. To some lucky person. Many bass tagged will pay from 500 to 5000.

Looks like he might get you involved. I fished from the time I could hold a cane pole. It is a relaxing sport

Looks like you and your sons are off to a great start; it's a learning process! I love Bass fishing; especially around Lily Pads!

They are learning a lifetime of fun. I still love seeing a bass smack a surface lure. Kinda gets the heart going and after 60yrs of fishing it is still enjoyable. Dad taught me when I was just a tadpole and we spent a lot of time together matching wits with the fish. Bob

As long as he is catching fish or getting bites, you’re good.

Im not a bass fisher so no help here.

Just keep it fun and he’ll stay with it.

And as previously mentioned, the spinning real should be under the pole, not on top of the pole.

He did really good to get a fish that size reeled in especially since he was having to reel it backwards with the reel upside down.
