Ariens versus Husqvarna zero turn mower question.
My 21 year old son really does know a lot. Seriously, smart kid. The problem is he knows a lot right up until he doesn't know a lot but he can't seem tell the difference!! 
I was thinking about buying a zero turn Husqvarna, 42 inch cut. My boy informs me that an Ariens zero turn 42 inch cut is a much better mower. Since he has been working at Lowe's for a few months he obviously knows what he's talking about. Just ask him!!
To his credit he was listing a bunch of differences in the mowers but I don't know if he is correct or not.
So what can you tell me about Ariens, Husqvarna and the differences between the two??

most homeowner grade lawnmowers are made with the same "third party" parts and several are put together at the same assembly plant. if this is the grade lawnmower that will meet your needs buy the one with the features you want for the price you are willing to pay. some may have a better warrenty than others, such as it is. 0 -
I think Ariens and Gravely come out of the same factory. Not sure about the Husqvarna. Whats the difference in price? 0 -
DO NOT BUY HUSQVARNA. Their chainsaws and trimmers are great because they are still made in Sweden. The mowers are rebadged AYP JUNK!!!0 -
Look into a brand of 0 turns named Grasshopper. Friend ran one for years and years commercially with only an occasionally belt break. 0 -

If you live in Spartanburg,drive to Anderson and go to STEC equipment and buy a Hustler Raptor with a Kawasaki engine.It is a very good quality homeowner mower made by Hesston in Kansas. 3 -
i'll say this again, none of these mowers are made by anybody, they are assembled by someone out of pretty much the same parts for different name brands including the mowers assembled by AYP. the people who assemble them may or may not bend the sheet metal, paint them the appropriate color, apply stickers and out the door they go. now when you get a step abovd the "homeowner" quality mower then they do have specific manufactures but they still use many generic third party parts. engines, hydraulic drives, blade spindels, pulleys, belts, tires, wheels, seats and hardware. 0 -
I have several Husqvarna lawn mowers and cant say anything bad about them, The Kawasaki twin in my 42 inch is one of the best Ive had. I use one hard on my tree farm and I like it better than my John Deere. The Kubota has really been the best, but for the money Husky is worth it. 0 -
I've had a Husky for two years and had zero problems with it -- but I bought it from a servicing dealer I really like.
If you expect to use the mower long and hard go with a dealer you trust and pick the brand they carry.3 -
I guess that is like saying Gm, Ford, Honda and others don't build cars either because of all the outsourced parts? It boils down to design, engineering and quality specs for those parts. Deere and Husqvarna may not build the motors but they spec out what they are going to use and use better quality than the crap assembled under 10 different names by somebody like AYP. I agree with Buddy. My 54"Hustler Raptor is great & I think Lowes is selling them now. As mentioned in past threads, be careful on slopes. 0 -
Not sure about the mowers but I have a 27 inch Husqvarna snow blower from Lowe’s. It is I think about 10 years old now. Never had a problem with it only had to change the drive belt one time and it starts first time every time with the pull start. 0 -
I should add that I don't have a lot of grass to mow but I want the zero turn to do a better job of getting close to trees, etc. I can't hardly walk and I don't like my wife having to do a lot of trimming. Momma is a very hard worker but I don't think she needs the extra work of pushing a lawn mower to do the trimming. Since we have maybe .5 acres to mow a 42 inch is plenty big but we wont be doing a lot of grass or using the mower hard so I don't want to spend over 3,500 bucks so it somewhat limits things. 0 -
Check out the Mowers Direct webpage. They have several that are rated pretty good for less than $3000. You don't have to buy from them but it should give you an idea what's available. I figured that I've mowed a billion acres of lawn in my life and I deserved a zero turn mower at this stage of my life and mowing is actually fun now.

Ariens is Gravely's parent company, as to it versus Husqvarna you would need to compare the components. I would pick which ever one has the better hydro gear transmissions. 0 -

Of all the brands out there. I don't think I'd probably have considered those two. But of the two, I would probably say the nod goes to Husq., but only slightly and not to where I think the average person is going to care. 0 -

Mr. Perfect, 2 miles from my home is an outstanding Husqvarna dealer (among other brands). Great customer service and very good small engine guys. I think most of the commercial lawn services in this area use this business. He handles Husqvarna as his low price option. So that is why Husqvarna. My son has been working at Lowes where they sell Ariens. So he was busy telling me the Ariens were better than the Husqvarna which got me interested in learning more about the Ariens. I'm leaning towards Husqvarna because of a top dealer for any repair/warranty work so close to me. 0 -

Your purchase idea is good. Just try getting service from a big box store.Can't fix it but will gladly sell you a new one.
