Chart making 101
This is how you plot data when you don't understand the difference between a rise OF 2.5M and a rise TO 2.5M

Either way I'm not sticking my neck out, it only makes sense to have gone up 2.5 million with places reopening and REHIRING the people who got laid off. I don't see this as a true job gain but I am no economist. I think this is a ballyhood nothing IMHO 0 -

No. If it were showing the change properly, the little blue line would indeed have that checkmark shape, but the leg would only be 2.5 long, not the indicated 23.2. I bet it's fun watching you sight in a rifle scope.0 -

dj/dt = 2.5M when dt = 1, and t0 = April, and t1 = May.
However, the chart is showing the change in the change in jobs, or d(dj/dt)/dt
To compare it to position:
if number of jobs = j, is analogous to x = position:
dj/dt or change in the number of jobs over time, compares to dx/dt, change in position over time or velocity.
d(dj/dt)/dt or change in the change of number of jobs over time compares to dv/dt or change in velocity over time, or acceleration.
The chart is correct for what it is showing.0 -

I was going with the assumption that the BLS made the chart and CNBC borrowed it.0
