Well dang, gotta dig a hole tomorrow

Went out to do chores this evening and our little Bay pony "Tucker" was dead by the feed bunk.
He was one of the ponies the Grandkids drove in 4H, we had retired him and a Cy a black one maybe four/five years ago.
His partner Cy is aged also and kinda gimpy and stiff of late, so when I dig the hole tomorrow, I'm going to put him down also so he won't be lonesome.
Boys,Cross the bridge where the grass is belly deep and the sun is always warm.
You two provided lots of smiles for kids and adults alike.

    Some pet's  just don't live long enough, especially dogs.

    LOML has four horses waiting for her on the hillside behind the barn.  Put the last two down together because one wouldn't have lasted the winter alone.
    It's for the best, but sure isn't easy.
    They gave each other some good years as therapy horses.

    Its always sad to loose animals you grew up with. 
    Friend of mines wife lost a mare she has had for years. Neighbor had a backhoe.

    yeppp...day in the dumper here too...went out north side of house and there was big orange cat dead....this was a roamer between here and neighbor 2/3s mile north....i called to it and left food and water out and just saw it come by 2 days ago....not a mark on the outside so i can only guess....took it out and buried it in the trees and let neighbor know.....

    That’s a tough thing to do, but I understand.

    Had a sick one in the barn and the other one in a pasture 40 yards away, the one passed with the wife and daughter overnight. I had him wrapped in a tarp when I pulled him out of the barn with a tractor to take to a hole in the woods that my excavator buddy dug.

    The horse in the pasture somehow knew what was happening even though he couldn’t see his pasture mate through the tarp. He was worked up for days. Makers Mark took the edge off for me taking the stall apart and getting him moved and wrapped to drag out.

    I feel for you.

    Done deal now and just some fond memories and pictures.
    next heart tugger will be when I list the two pony carts and harness to sell.
    Although, I might hang onto them and see if I can generate any interest in pony driving in my 8YO Grandson in Wyoming, he has a pony that he cowboys on (yes, he has roped and drug calves to the fire on him) and also runs barrels and goat ties with him in Wyo Jr Rodeo.
    ponies that will ride and drive are worth a pretty penny these days.

    I'm no big softy.  I could dispatch your dog or cat for you, but I can't do my own.  However, I can't do it to a horse, I don't care who owns it.  A few years ago I gave my horses away to a friend, so that I didn't have to go through this some day.  Last week we had a cat that was 11 years old, and that we had had since he was born just up & die on us.  I planted him in my wife's flower garden near the pool.  It's sad that our pets don't live as long as we do, and that we have to deal with their deaths.

    There's not much worse than having a pet outlive you. My Great Aunt who lived in another state passed away leaving 2 elderly dogs that no one in the family could or would take in. Her daughter simply took them and had them put down. The Lord meant for us to outlive our pets, I believe.

    I could post something, however it would just be a rehash of what has already been posted.
    That is why at my "advanced" age, I/we no longer have any pets.
    Just to hard.
