Aacckkk!! Humidity
I knew it was coming last night as I watched the mist roll across the hay field. At the moment the temp is 81 and the humidity is 94%.
No need to go to the pool today, just take an atmospheric swim in your own sweat. Heat index is supposed to be over 100 today. I think summer has finally won the battle and is here to stay for the next few months.

That's why we have air conditioning here in The South and with climate change it will be required in the north also. I installeda mini split system down here and ditch central duct air conditioning .It is much better now with cooling and power use.serf

Corona has thrown a monkey wrench, big time into Arizona this year. I usually head up into the White Mountains, during the summer. To escape the heat of the desert.
Not this year! They just announced this morning. That the White Mountain Apaches, reached 1000 positive cases of the virus. That's not even figuring in the Navajo's, from up north of I 40. Who are a already up to 800+.
To those folks who are Arizona residents. Just be careful, this summer. I'm not sure, Ducey, (governor), did the right thing, opening up the State. In light of the numbers, in the previous paragraph.
The Indians, are the canary in the coal mine, as far as I'm concerned. Probably thousands are walking around with it, unknowingly.0 -
All of the tribes in AZ. have been in serious condition since late February/early March. Tribal Police have had all roads into and out of the Nations blockaded and stationed with armed guards. The rate of infection in the tribal areas is higher than any other part of the state including Maricopa County (Phoenix). What's worse is the fact that they had very few PPEs compared to other parts of the state, not that that there was a surplus anywhere. Fortunately the general public responded almost instantly with supplies while sourcing PPEs from anywhere that had any at all. There is still no passage into the Nations currently.

The weather person announced that Monsoon season is here in AZ. So far, huge blue skies and no clouds.The "weather person" (whoever that may be) is full of baloney! That "weather person" is going by the date, not the actual conditions for the "monsoon season".
Since 2008, the National Weather Service has "decreed" that monsoon season runs from June 15 to the end of September. Prior to that, the monsoon season was determined to have started after having three consecutive days with dewpoints of 55 degrees or higher. (This is for the Phoenix valley area, I believe that for the Tucson valley it is three consecutive days of 53 degrees or higher). This, imnsho, is a much more accurate method of determining whether or not the monsoon season is here this year or not.
Current conditions here are 80 degrees (at 1:58am MST) with 16% humidity and a 31 degree dewpoint. The highest the dew point gets in the next 24+ hours is 40 degrees, and not much change in that over the next week. Monsoon season, my butt! Not even close!
Big Al (Sorry, but this gripes my butt, when a "weather forecaster" just regurgitates some government-picked data to say, "Oh, the monsoon season is here!" Has it rained? Is the dew point up? Has it been in the mid-50s for three (or more) consecutive days? No? Then, "so-called weather forecaster," you're a complete effing idiot!)

Thank you, Al. I'm only an amateur weather guesser, but even I depend on science and not flibbertegibberty. BTW, our temp this morning is 76 with a dewpoint of 18. Dry? Ya tink?
(But if your weather gal has "warm frontage" like ours, I'd watch her anyway!)

Jeeze! Sorry I didn't have the proverbial green type available to denote sarcasm. But I certainly didn't expect the weather police to show up and castigate this post with such ferocity!Those of us born and raised in the State of Arizona or have lived here for a few decades, certainly have a very complete understanding of the definition of Monsoon Season. I certainly don't need to be reminded in such a vociferous manner of the definition. Maybe you should apply for a weather forecasters job to satisfy the need for dispensing your vastly superior store of weather knowledge? (no green type available...)Best.0 -
Ah, Nononsense, that was not aimed at you, although I did use your quote.
I was referring to the fact that the guvmint (NWS) had to go and "improve" the defining characteristics of Monsoon Season by just arbitrarily assigning dates to "the season" back in 2008.
Kind of like how the "Christmas season" has changed from the day after Thanksgiving, to include October and all of November now, y'know?I need to find a job where I can be wrong more than half the time and still get paid boo-coo bucks, like a weather-forecaster! But, I'm just the wrong gender, wrong shape (round IS a shape, right?) and kind of a stickler for accurate information, instead of "maybe this, maybe that" predictions.
