Got a scare this morning
Went out the back door to go to the shed of and of course was not really paying attention. I almost ran face first into a coyote. He was as startled as I was and luckily he decided to just head into the woods. He must have been eating a lot of rabbits because he looked in good shape and had a nice pelt.

Sounds like one of those Close Encounters of the Third Kind!
Well, maybe of the 2nd kind but still.....0 -
You're lucky it was a 'yote. Around here you could walk out the door and be face to face with a cougar or a wolf! 0 -
Big blackish bear here, been there done that. Yikes. 0 -
Copperhead balled up under my driver's side door a week ago. That will wake you up in the morning. I'm glad he moved a little before I got to my truck. 0 -
not sure how much danger you were in if not cornered or having some issues I would guess a single one would run off but still startling to run into one
around here yotes are the only big predator we have them around us but they stay away even with all the free chicken and duck dinners they seem to avoid coming in . and yes I am glad of that
I do not fear them but I still do not want to confront one or three while in the back lot even just getting bit would be big time PITA . and real glad nothing bigger is around us .0 -
oh ohhh. You know there's more than just one?? Time to night hunt. 3 -
The place I lived at up North on the NY/NJ border. (1947 Chestnut log cabin on Greenwood lake.) Literally right on the line. Had so many bear, that it was unusual to go more than a couple weeks without an up close and personal bear encounter. I would leave either early in the morning, or arrive home after dark. Park the truck in the back driveway and have to walk though a path in the woods to get to the house. Head on a swivel the whole time. NO CCW in NJ.
A couple years after I moved back down South, a woman was killed by a bear about 2 mi. from my house. 1st and only bear fatality in NJ. On the Appalachian trail, that ran on the ridgetop behind my house. (Bearfort Ridge.)
