Snake on the House
This guy was climbing up my dovetail notches this morning.
The reason the notches look a little ratty is, rats. Tree rats. Squirrels climb up there and gnaw on the notches.
Just the other day I made a mix of cayenne pepper and water and put it on the notches. Looks a little rough but it keeps the squirrels away.

looks like a black rat snake...great mouser.....over at the lake they can go up an oak tree like a rocket 3 -

We had a snake in the house a couple of weeks ago. it was a copperhead. i put on a pair of leather welding gloves and caught him. I was holding him too far back, and he turned and bit the glove. We put him in a glass jar with a ventilated lid. I turned him loose in the woods. 0 -

We always have a nest of Brown Snakes in our wood pile every spring! Harmless small snakes that for some reason like or logs 0 -

Right. Just cannot believe what them black snakes can climb when they hear a little bird chirping in the next. I've seen them climb a pipe to try to get into a bird house.
Have to be careful when you catch one of them big-un's. They will sometimes vomit out both ends and it's a terrible stinky mess.

We have a huge chicken snake that lives near the back door of our house. They've been seen in the barn and coming out from under the metal roof of our house! The other day I noticed something out the window of the second story of our house.....it was this fat snake laying across the top of the bush basking in the sun. 0 -
Good info all around. They are climbers and love birds nests as stated. My father had one climb a 20 foot 2" steel pipe to feed in a purple martin house. Maybe the only snake he ever killed. A fully grown black rat could swallow a gray squirrel, though they are tough prey, probably not some of the southern fox squirrels I have seen around the Okefenokee. 0 -
These are grey squirrels. No, there are no bird nests up there that the snake could get to.
I don't kill any snakes except poisonous snakes and I usually don't kill them. But this snake will be my new best friend if he will start eating those damn squirrels.0 -
I could see him MAYBE getting the squirrell down, but what about the tail?? thats a lot to swallow, unless he's gonna run around with a feather duster for a nose........ 0 -
It will work Hillbillie, trust me. They're able to digest the body and the tail follows along when there is room in the stomach. They have had a couple of million years to figure it out. African pythons eat antelope, and even with the horns protruding through their abdominal wall and skin, they digest the antelope, the horns drop off and they heal fine. 0 -
