To heck with being humane

I have the large trap set next to my car. The hood is up, hoping to make it inhospitable for the vole. Last time I caught one in the large trap it strangled itself trying to get out. The gloves are off. The little bugger appears to still be under there.


I covered the trap to make it more inviting since the car is in the open. I'm sitting on the deck, enjoying the rain on the metal roof, as I keep an eye on it.

    Good luck with your trapping.  When in Florida I had a squirrel decide to chew on my truck.  A few people had them chew the wiring and had to have it replaced.

     good luck hope you catch it  over the last few weeks I have had at least two groundhogs move in now have a chore to get rid of them
     a friend many years ago,  she had  some fancy breed of dog  she sold  , Alaskan something or other do not remember  , my wife and I met her at her house one night just a couple miles from us ,as  I worked on her cars for her , 
     any way we walked in  with her same time the dogs had destroyed the couch and all the kitchen trash looked like a bomb had went off the living room and kitchen were a total mess . they also got into the garage chewed the shiftier knob and fender flares off her corvette 
     she was trying to hold back the tears and was embarrassed and mad her emotions running wild thinking of the clean up and cost to repair it all .


     as for us we had a dog shred a couch cushion many years ago not a great loss,  almost more funny  when we walked in and got that what ? look from the dog  ,,,      well all most

    You have the vole trap next to the car.  Do voles get into your car?

    Wie schade you don't have my mutt Daisy the Beagle.  He sport is killing voles.

    Got a vole under the hood and the dog went after it. Ate the bumper off my car trying to get to it.

    I had parked the car near the mailbox on edge of field while I mowed to keep from possible rock to windshield scenario. Apparently a vole took advantage of the proximity and hopped into engine compartment.


    Wish I had just taken the chance on a cracked windshield. Taking the car to local shop tomorrow morning and will have them put it on the lift to see if they can eradicate the rodent if i don't catch it tonight.

    Well, no luck in the trap. Hoping the little critter relocated to the barn since I left the hood up all night and it rained throughout the night.


    Moving the trap to the barn and taking the car to shop this morning.

    Wow that sucks hope you get off light on the repair bill. Creatures can't live with em can't live with out them LOL

    Go for a long drive and hope for "muffler/manifold/header meat". Or run a few snakes in the engine bay. I wonder if you ran a garden hose from the exhaust in to the engine bay kill it?

    Yep, you may have a few trenches in the yard but they will be short and no longer in use.  
    I swear Cairn Terriers can grin at you when they've taken care of a pest for you ;)

    Living in rural areas all my life at different places I've done battle with all kinds of rodents eating wiring under the hood. Had a good small rodent killing dog that would also chew things including engine wiring up until it was maybe around 4 years old. It would crawl up into the engine after a rodent and the dog would chew the wiring. I had to use max patience, because I liked the little rodent killer dog.
    Only cure I have ever found for keeping nuisance things from getting under the hood (and I've tried them all) was to get a good mouser cat and I really don't like cats. I got a Female cat, got her fixed and she is a rodent killer. Not a chipmunk, squirrel, rat, mouse, very few skinks within quarter mile of the house.
    I've never heard of a vole getting into a vec.
    The wiring's insulation on several Vec's now days is made from soybeans/oil and the varmits like the taste.
    Sometimes I think the vec's makers do such on purpose to stay in the repair business or to sell new vec's.

    Had a friend that his dogs eat the whole quarter panel off his car trying to get to a racoon.

    You need to keep the hood closed; voles & mice like to be covered, as in a burrow.
    Too bad you don't have any hawks; they think voles are a great lunch.

    Several years back GM touted their "GREEN" wiring and plastics, it was made from and covered in a soy based product.  As millions found out, vermin find the soy based stuff a delightful snack.  I just wonder how many wiring harnesses GM sold because critters love it when companies like to tout being green.
