Camping Trips?
Obviously the virus has put a bit of a damper on big trips, but....You fellow camping folks.....what's on the agenda for trips so far this year?
So far, everything we have booked is later this summer. We've got a a couple weekend stays planned at local state parks and one week long trip that will be split between 2 more state parks. That one will be spent with my brother and his family. I'm really looking forward to that one.

BTW, my wife really wanted us to put our camper in a seasonal site this year. With us just buying it last year, I was having none of that.
That wouldn't have been the worst decision with things going the way they have this year.

Our first trip in April was cancelled due to the park being closed per our Governor Northam. We have 5 more trips planned and hopefully they will all go as scheduled. First one early June and then one in July, August, September and October. Looking forward to things getting back to normal. Don 0 -
We are presently camping in ours for two months in crystal river Fl on the gulf. Wife has more wants than a classified section in a newspaper so I would bet we will be camping a lot more this summer and fall. I like motel and hotel rooms with all the amenities, she likes camping. Guess who is winning.

After the 4th of July, back up into the high country of Idaho for ATV rides and fishing. A week out and return home to restock. Then back into the high country. Repeat as necessary. 0 -

Big 3 week excursion through Wyoming at the end of August. Wife has never seen Yellowstone so we'll go there (I guess). Not too thrilled about the Yellowstone part only because I've been there so many times, but we are going to go all the way through the park from south to north into Montana so that will be kind of cool. I've never been that far north in the park except during winter.
On the way up we'll take in Lander (with dinner at Svilar's of course!), then South Pass, then over through Pinedale, shoot over to Green River Lakes in the Windrivers, then up through Jackson Hole. On the way back we'll go out the East Gate and hit Cody (and hit the Firearms and art museum for a day, because I can never spend enough time in there!)But the real purpose of the whole journey is to look at a bunch of retirement properties.
We went through there in 2017. It was my 2nd time through the Tetons and Yellowstone and the wife's 1st. There's a good microbrewery in Jackson Hole(if your into that). I love the scenery and stuff the parks offer, but my favorite part of the entire area is Beartooth Pass.

That is basically what I want my retirement to be. Hunting in the fall of course which will also include trips to other states . Just don't try to buy an RV right now. I read that people are snapping them up as COVID shelters, and it is most definitely a seller's market. 0 -

That would explain the crazy high prices I've seen people trying to sell their used RV's for then. I just seen our identical camper listed for $2,000 more than we bought ours for....only it was two years older.
I'm glad we bought ours last year I guess!

Before I retired I worked out a deal with my company to pay for a travel trailer to stay in while I was out of town instead of renting an apartment or hotel room which I would also keep after I retired. It was cheaper for them and it was better than throwing money away on rent that I'd never get back. I really liked it over staying in a motel room and not having to pack my bags to go home every weekend. But after staying in a travel trailer for 3 years it sorta took the fun out of going camping in one. So I just ended up selling it when I retired. It was nice though. It was 35' long with 2 large slide outs with a queen size walk around bed with a shower that someone 6'-5" tall could stand up in with electric stabilizers, electric awning, and electric jack.

Spending a night in a multi-tens of thousands of dollar RV is not "camping." Camping involves a tent and if you want to go the "luxury" route, maybe a cot rather than sleeping on the ground. As for me, I gave up my tent when three people were murdered in their tent about twenty feet away from me in my tent one night back in the 1980s. Oh, almost forgot... yeah you could say I was a little traumatized; the perp used a knife and got blood all over my car as he was running away as cowards do, but I didn't protest or riot. 0 -

You NEED to visit the Little Bighorn Battleground..........It is amazing. Very moving. They have a GREAT museum with lots of firearms and artifacts. Would like to visit Custers Battleground ... not far from Yellowstone as haven't been there yet. Last time in the area, the temps were over 100 F so decided to pass on the 50 miles to get there.

no thanks, I know people love it but it is just not for me. when I got out of the marines I told myself I would never spend another night in a tent, I haven't broken my promise yet....... much prefer a motel and pool 0 -
Wife’s idea of camping matches many other women . $30,000.00 rev is a must . Me I am happy in a nice tent . We don’t camp much ! Compromise is the holiday inn .

I used to enjoy camping. There are a lot of State Forest Campgrounds nearby and a few that were not well known to the tourists. Then came the internet and all the tech that came with it. To camp in these same places now days, it is like trying to enjoy the great outdoors bumper to bumper in a big city subdivision with VERY small lots!
I am fortunate to live on acreage out in the sticks. Home Sweet Home never felt so good!0 -
Plans this year are to load the kayaks with tent, a fishing pole, a cast iron skillet, cooking oil and taters (other essential side vittles). Fish and float to a promising gravel bar, cop a squat and enjoy. 0
