Dad is in the hospital....my daughter is beside herself with worry
Dad fell yesterday and he couldn't ever get back up once he went down.....so she called an ambulance. He wouldn't go with them, but he did agree to let them help him into her truck so she could take him to the hospital. She called me while on the way and told me she would update me when she got there. They took him in, but wouldn't let her inside. They told her they would call her to let he know if they were keeping him. I went on down there to wait with her in my car. Wow at the crap show you get to watch at an ER while sitting in the parking lot.
They finally called and they did admit him. Today they found he has cirrhosis of the liver, he is bleeding from his colon and has had three blood transfusions so far. Its like a dam has broke and just everything is going wrong. She asked to speak to him and they said he couldn't talk because they have him on a ventilator. He was making such an improvement in the short time he spent with them at their house.
She is bawling her eyes out right now just thinking that she didn't get a chance to really take care of him like she wanted. She also is terrified that he thinks she just dropped him off and abandoned him. I told her that he's probably very out of it and doesn't realize at all where he is or what is going on. She said the surgeon called and said that he isn't able to do the surgery that is needed at this time, so its pretty touch and go right now.
I told her if it makes her feel better we can tell them he would like to come to her home for his final moments and not leave this world without being with family.

She deserves a ton of credit. Suppose he had fallen at home before he came to stay with her. She stepped up and was there for him. Prayers for all. Bob 0 -
Being on a ventilator is very serious. I hope it turns out OK. 0 -

They called and said she could come down and speak with them about what all was going on. So, she went in the hospital and I waited outside for her. She said he is totally out.....so he isn't suffering, which is the only good news so far. They cannot find where he is bleeding internally, 5 transfusions and his temp hasn't been above 93 all day. The said he couldn't live through surgery right now. She is planning on going back in the morning to speak with them about any changes overnight with the treatments they are trying. Hopefully, they can get him stable enough to do whatever is needed. Since my daughter made the decision to take him into her home I've tried to let her be the decision maker on everything and point person for information. When I find out what is going on I relay it to the other family members and I sit in parking lots with her to be as supportive as I can. 0 -

I feel sorry for your daughter. I don't think she realized how much resposibility she took on. I was the care giver for my mother and step father. It was a huge responsibility that took constant action on my part to keep them healthy and happy and pay all thier bills and buy them diapers and presrciptions and sundry other items. And in the end I had to make all the final arraigments for both them and my father and step mother.
It does take an emotional and physical toll on you, and I'm sure it was a lot worse for her at such a young age. She is to be commended for stepping up when the need arose, and I hope she comes through this experience with her compassion intact.
As we age all manner of ailments rear their ugly head. All you can do is roll with the punches and hope ffor the best.Hopefully your father will get through this and your daughter and him can get back together.Joe

Well...DAMN...hang in there! 0 -
He's looking a lot better, good color and his temp is coming up so they turned the heater off that was blowing under his blankets. He's still sedated, but my daughter ran up there this morning and got to go in and check on him. They are only allowing one person to come see him, so we've let her go both times so far. If they let us in again I plan on going tomorrow. 3 -
