Dates of death conflict...the August date is when his unit was in Pusan and the first one shows his unit in the Seoul campaign/battle zone. This is the way it looks to me at this point in time:

Comments: Private First Class Brocato was a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea on August 8, 1950. 3rd Platoon,D-2-5,1st Prov Marine Brigade by Doug Bell. Spanish Italian heritage. He was known as "Sammy."

Sammy was killed in action at the Inchon landing. Along about 1957, my father and I was driving north above Beaumont when we stopped to pick up a stranger who was hitchhiking and carrying one suitcase. As I recall, he might have been from another state, traveling, and looking for a job. After coming to know each other a bit we told the man that we were from Beaumont. He thought for a moment and asked if we had ever known a Sammy Brocato. Of course we knew him very well including that he had been killed in Korea. At this time he told us that he was with Sammy in the Marines on the day they were advancing against the enemy in a charge just after scaling the seawall at the Inchon landing. He stated that that Sammy was just a short distance to his left when he was hit by a long burst of fire from a machine (Burp?) gun, and that he was hit from the waist up. Obviously, Sammy did not suffer - that's a blessing. My father hired the man and they worked together for awhile.
