They are already citizens and we spend as much or more on them as mainland welfare pits like Detroit and most other Democrat controlled cities. Becoming a state would get them 2 senators and at least 2 reps. We don't need more left leaning members of Congress so a big thumbs down on that idea. Bob

With killer hurricanes & earthquakes coming then the last thing we need is a island in the middle of the bulls eye to bail out every time as a state . It's nothing but a Tax haven For LLC's to operate in for a tax dodge anyway.

The US territory is drowning in debt to the tune of roughly $70 billion, with roughly 40 percent of island residents living in poverty while government spending is out of control.

Puerto Rico defaulted on its monthly debt for the first time in 2015. Two years later, the territory filed for bankruptcy — the largest US bankruptcy claim for a government entity in history.

And as the economy gets worse, more Puerto Ricans leave the island, meaning the government has less tax revenue to pay the bills.

I lived there for 2 years in the service. Couldn't tell the difference between P.R. and The Dominican Republic, both s---holes. They are incapable of governing honestly, graft, greed, crooked politics, all wrapped up in a big slum. No statehood!!!!
