Hey Ken
-
My Sister picked her up from rehab yesterday. They are back at my Mom's condo on the golf course. My Sister will stay with her all this Week. My Brother and his wife are flying from NM for next week to stay with her. After that it will be on me, as I live about 7-9 miles away.
Butchdog2 has agreed to tackle the Bathroom restructure from a Master bath with Whirlpool tub to a walk in shower. We will meet up at 3pm over there to discuss it. Looking forward to meeting him.
All the Dr.s and the rehab specialists say that she has done better than any 90 year old they have ever seen with this and is well above the average curve. We were warned (and we knew this anyway,) that she will try to get people to do as much as possible for her, as oppossed to making the effort or attempt to do it for herself. That will be an obstacle to overcome.
For example, she had been bragging that she had been walking 1/3 mi. twice a day at the rehab facility, but when my Sister and I took her back over for a check up with her Orthopedist Surgeon, She didn't even want to get up out of the wheelchair to walk (with assistance) 7-10' to the bathroom. Etc.
My sister and I have texted each other since they got home yesterday, and my Mom is barking out orders and being very demanding. (It has been an ongoing thing, and we knew going in to this, it would be an obstacle to overcome.) They already had a physical therapy session yesterday. We have arranged to have that ongoing at her house and have gone with Silver Angels for home health care.
Tri-care covers 100% of the first 100 days. (So maybe 30-40 days down so far.)
Thanks for asking. Probably more info. than you wanted, but I tend to share with you guys, and use you all as a sounding board. You guys ( and girls) have all been great. I appreciate it.

Sounds like she is making progress. As for the demanding attitude, I went through the same thing with my mother. Seems like when they get to that age they are set in their ways and want everything the way they are used to. It wasn't easy but I can't tell you how many times I bit my tongue because I was told I wasn't doing something her way. I figured she was scared or at least worried by her health issues and this was her way of trying not to show it. I hope she has some good friends or neighbors that can be with her if you guys need a break for a few hours to recharge mentally. I know that helped me a lot when I was moms caregiver. Best of luck to all of you and keep us informed. Bob 0 -
Thanks Bob. We/I encouraged her to move in to the Condos on the Golf Course specifically because she would have friends and neighbors all around her. It paid off, because when she fell at her front door after checking the mail. Her friend (and a nurse) two doors over found her, and would not let her get up. Called the Ambulance.
She has tons of support, and is well loved in the community and town/church, having been born and raised here before traveling the World with my Dad, a Military Man. Mom ran a store in town for probably 20 years after they retired back here. My Dad was Town Manager and Mayor for a while. Tons of people know them. My Dad passed about 7 years ago.
Thanks Bob.
