What keeps me going..89 C1500 build...pic heavy..

I've built and restored trucks and Jeeps for a long,long time now,my latest build is probably going to be my last,and rightfully so..arthur-itus and several other things try to keep me slowed down to a crawl somedays, but like everyone does,I put my chin up and roll on...I bought this little truck down in Mayberry RFD...Mount Airy,NC..original owner bought it new there,and drove it till the 350 engine gave out..300k miles...gave 600.00 for it in the cond in the first pic,..non running..350/700r4 trans..never been wrecked or rusted..so this 30 yr old rig is getting a new lease on life with me, far from factory though..I'm doing a frame off rebuild [in process now]..with the new heartbeat being a Gen VI 454 bored .60 over and running a stroker crankshaft bring total cubic inches to 496ci ..all forged internals..Callies crankshaft/rods wiseco forged alum pistons 21cc dome,.AFR Alum 265cc heads..Edelbrock air gap intake MSD ignition and distributor Quick fuel 850cfm brawler carb Clay Smith custom ground hyd roller camshaft and roller rockers with a 1.7 ratio..all said and done I'm building off a recipe of parts ,that has made almost 700hp and 650 ft lbs of tq..at the flywheel ,..it will spin thru a Animal Performance TH400 Revenger series trans.that is good to 750hp..with a billet convertor 3200 rpm stall..I had Strange Engineering custom build the Dana 60 rr end to bolt directly in my chassis..with 11" Wilwood disc brakes and Eaton helical gear posi with 3:54 gears...frame has been sandblasted..primed and painted two coats,.I have all new front suspension including upper and lower control arms,and all steering gear box included,,.I'm using a Bell Tech lowering kit that will drop the new leaf spring down 4" in rr and coils to drop it 3" in front,..won't be a low rider..will sit like an older muscle car..and improve the ride,.I found a perfect set of SS454 light grey buckets and console to bolt in it, dash is perfect ,will need a new headliner,carpet..I have Inline Tubing complete SS prebent lines for the brakes to run,and will install all new booster and master cylinder also,.will have to plumb a fuel cell to the front..it will set into the bed behind the rr axle,paint will be last and it will stay red below the body line at the top of the fender,and black above it like the 4x4 pictured... ,.this virus BS..has really whacked my progress,and I'm hoping to get back at it soon...hope you gear heads can enjoy this..We call her the Lil Red Rooster...comments are welcome...thanks..hope everyone's doing good and healthy!...Loko

    But, but, but it's a Chevy. According to some on here there is no way it could have gone 300k on the engine and not have the body rusted to the consistency of Swiss cheese. Seriously it looks like you are going first class with the rebuild and it will be a heck of a ride when you are done.👍 Bob

    Nice I have done a few frame off's mostly older Jeeps. 

    Did you use POR-15 on the frame?

    Once, I had the skills to do a frame up restoration.  I still have the mental skills but the physical skills have got up and left me.  Even when I had the skills to do that I must confess I would not have had the patience.  Now I have the patience but not the ability to do that.  You can't win!!  You are really doing that rebuild right!!

    No.had a bad exp. with it once,had it come off in large chunks,I used glass/wet dustless blasted it,..clean it it with a new nylon brush..and then used Rustoleum Professional grade primer and satin black enamel paint...it got two coats of paint,.last one I built it still looked like new the day I sold it..after 8 yrs driving it..pic below...

    I have heard others have problems with it.  I never did but I had the frames shot with steel then I painted them with POR15 with a brush after prep.

    I still got the Sarge for the dirty work neighbor...lol... 85 CUCV M1008  with a M101 trailer for a bed..

    good for you and great looking work and parts going back on it  congrats on that also 
    when younger I did a few cars and trucks really enjoyed it body work was my challenge 
    I have a 69  ss camaro I really want to do before I kick off I took it apart so long ago  ( had it 1976  and run the crap out it as a kid and at least  five engines and three transmissions (4 speeds) whats   sad the original 396 was the first to go and I let the speed shop keep / junk it .  car  was a ss 396 4 speed from the factory 
      I have been slowly rounding parts  and the correct tools and improving my skills over time now to get my honey do list finished ( endless ) and regain the enthusiasm to get on it  it looks sad sitting covered up in the pole barn ...  a lot of cars and trucks keep getting done ahead of it so its just been waiting its turn for way too long 
              your post does remind me to get on it before its too late  and get back my motivation 
     (  oh its not the one in the photo on my post thats a second one I bought about 15  + years ago  I really need to strip and paint it now )

    It's a lot of work Randy, but the reward is awesome! That BB is gonna shred some tires with that light ass end.
    Pulled the motor back out of my Chevelle this spring and added E Street heads, and a thumper cam. Carb upgrade from 600 to 750. I already tore up the transmission, so I'm waiting on parts. :/

    As you are well aware of brother..good to hear from you!..Chevelle looks great,nice work..Your wifes Mustang is very nice too!!..well the trans is built to handle more HP than the motor can make and so is the custom built dana 60..35 spine chromoly axles..but I'm willing to test it all out..lol..that's where the fun is!..time and money..and patience are the drawbacks..lol... ;)

    Sweet. #4 has a desire to do restoration on the side. I have a Scout that is going to be a family project for him and my three sons-in-law. No body issues other than needing a paint job, brakes need work and the interior is rough. Everything else worked when it was parked. Brother has started a restoration on his '66 Chevy. Son-in-law #1 has a Mustang he is restoring. Seems that wrenching is in the blood in my brood.
