Stopped at Strawberry Hill today. Got a gallon of strawberries!! Very good!!

I don't know how big a farming operation the Coolie family runs but I know they have 115 acres of strawberries and over 800 acres of peach trees.  The strawberries are great but when the peaches come in, their peaches are the best anywhere!   

Dessert at lunch today was a big bowl of strawberries.  Hard to beat!

     a some what local pick your own place 20 miles ? or so wife tries to go each year last time we were there getting late and took forever to fill a gallon bucket . 
     they do have all ready picked but were out that day also .
    not sure if still  open a apple orchard we use to buy from  .  the owner a retired school teacher  was trying to sell the place he had  been doing it for like thirty +  years and just old and tired wanted to enjoy his life now , we  may find out this fall

    Yep my June bearing plants are starting to bloom now...love me some strawberries!

    Butch, I think the peaches are even better than the strawberries and the strawberries are great.  And the "All the way" burgers at the Café are WOW, just WOW!!  Strawberry Hill is 7 miles from where I live.  How far is it from you??

    Many years ago, 50 plus, Dad would load us up and head to Chesnee. Hit the small mom and pop back yard orchards.
    They would let us pick our own, and we would pick up the ones off the ground for peach butter. Talk about itch, that peach fuzz would work on your hide. Older varieties grown for flavor and are almost impossible to find now. The so called peaches today are bred for shipping and eye appeal, not too good without a ton of sugar on them.
    We even had a couple folks that would travel drive down there with big 2 ton trucks and bring a big load back to peddle.
    I remember some of the names, J.H. Hale, big as a softball, Georgia Bell,  a white peach and my favorite , and Elberta. They will tell you they still market those but they are not the peach of long ago.
    We are seeing a few peaches in the fruit stands but they are cling stones and hard a rocks, cannon fodder.

    There was  strawberries in the grocery today, but they are shipped in.   Isn't it great to live in America!   Like I posted, the local crop will come on in June.
