If you ever thought I was a dumbass I just removed the doubt
Cutting an old bale feeder with a 9” grinder with a 7” disc. No, no guard.
The grinder bucked, twisted and left my hands, spun around and planted the cutting wheel into the top of my hand.
Gushing blood I clamped down, father in law grabbed a towel, I wrapped it tight, hopped in my pickup and flew 10 miles to town. Could barely walk, got inside the clinic and almost passed out.
Got some some temp stitches and now have a surgery appt tomorrow to reattach tendons, I have a non working finger and am in a splint.
What do we learn from this?

Thanks folks, it’s 0420 here and the pain has finally showed up, woke me up. I’m now regretting telling the ER doctor no pain pills because I dont want anything that could be addictive. So I just took a handfull of Advil.
At 0830 I have surgery scheduled to have tendons reattached. I hope this works because I have 2 fingers not working. I can make a fist but cannot lay my hand flat unless I grab those fingers and lift them up.
Drove myself to the hospital, got blood all through my pickup, need to clean that up. Severed a vein and was pumping blood pretty good. Accident to hospital was under 15 minutes, by the time I got there rhe skaking was uncontrollable and I could hardly walk. Told the doc about last years heart attack and I was not feeling well, IV started and some calming juice put in, phew.
That old pickup, when I had the engine apart I wound up doing a full rebuild, it was plumb wore out. All in all, here is a list of what Ol Blue got since I bought her,
- new distributor
- new 3/4 T leaf springs
- new shocks on all corners
- 2 new in tank fuel pumps
- rebuilt engine
- trans front pump new o-ring and seal
- new radiator
- new heater core
- new blower motor and resistor
- all new hoses and belt
- rewired driver door to get power windows working
- new JVC stereo with built in SXM
- new headlight assemblies
- new brakes all 4 corners
Next is rebuild AC convert to R134A and 4 new tires.
The 93 has a new transmission and is now a running driving truck.
Just got a 460 shortblock for the 1979 F250 and the 1979 F150 lift is complete and is a beast.

Those darn grinders'll get ya! I've had a few close calls running them with diamond blades and no guard. Took some skin a time or two but nothing as serious as you got.0 -

I borrowed a large grinder from a neighbor up North to cut an exhaust off. Was under the vehicle cutting the pipe when the grinder kicked back after getting off angle. Grabbed my T-shirt and proceeded to wind that up while being drawn in to my neck. Had to hold on with both hands it had so much torque. Could not click it off. It wasnt looking good.
Finally wound up so much of my T-shirt it stopped spinning. Got untangled, crawled back out from under the vehicle shirt hanging in tatters, and bleeding from a couple areas. Was actually looking at the scar on my bicep yesterday.

Yes Sir. Most accidents happen in the blink of an eye. Cut a tendon in half on my left index finger, years ago. Repaired no problem. Nice scar though.

I hope it all went well for you , and fast recovery . might want to reconsider the pain pills just a couple days I doubt if you get hooked they do not pass out the" top end "pain killers like they did many years ago
I made the mistake many years ago to tell the doc I don"t need no stinking pain pills ( kidney stones ) two am next morning I was wrong real wrong .. so now I least take the offer even if I do not use them0 -

After making sure the trigger finger worked, that was the 2nd thing I asked him! Said he uses the left one out the drivers window so they can see it. He's going to have to learn how to use a splitter in the truck all over again, or stick to automatics.Waiting for a call to see how the surgery went, I'll update when I hear something. If he tries to post anything today, it'll probably sound like something from Biden.

Cutting tendons is no fun. Been there done that. Left index finger. It all worked out okay. And that was many years ago. (1982) ?

Surgery went good and the Rocky Mountain Surgery Center is top notch. Very proffessional and accomodating, I joker about having some music playing in the OR, they asked what I liked and within minutes Black Sabbath was playing! Woke up to Led Zeppelin, how cool is that! “Doctor Feelhood” aka the Knock Out Doc” gave me options on numbing the arm, I opted for option 2. Asked if I was being knocked out, his reply was “ I’ll let ya take a nap”
They did a nerve block which wiped out my right arm, it is still “dead” and will be for awhile. Had 3 tendons cut, all three have been repaired, hand will be healed in about 90 days!

Man hope you heal up fast an well. I thru most of my cutting wheels away because of that sorta thing. Cut my self to many times. Now I just play with torches. Only have to worry about catching myself on fire. o:)Get well soon. 0 -

My finger (left index) that I cut the tendon on in about 1982, works good as new. I would imagine the Medical procedure has advanced leap years betond that point.
