New Seller - Advice on Payment Gateways
Hello! After a traumatic experience on eBay where I tried to assist a friend who was scammed for $2400, I decided that I did not trust eBay to support me as a seller, despite 16 years of 100% positive feedback as both a buyer and seller.
I have previously made some purchases here and have had excellent experiences, so I would like to start a new life as a seller.
My question is related to payment methods or the payment gateways. I am used to using PayPal, but that does not appear to be an option here. I will primarily be selling antique helmets and militaria, no firearms. Do buyers tend to prefer old fashioned checks/money orders or is online payment best? Would anyone have recommendations on payment gateways?
I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I use Paypal on some things here. Lots of "closet' paypal people on here. Don't look for any help though if they stiff you on this sight as paypal is antigun just like a lot of other companies. MOST people here are ok but just like anything else I have run into diks.
Fleabag is making changes I see and I think it will hurt them and maybe turn more people here to sell items as this sight is the best going.3 -
Personally when buying, I like the CC aspect, as I can get a firearm on the way the next day. (Even for a 3% premium.) I have no problem if a buyer requests a USPS Money order. While a pain in the butt, apprx 1 week to get to PO when open, and one week to mail MO to seller. It's a bummer. I do what I have to do.

I have been buying on GB for a lot of years now. I have never had a bad experience, (Knock on wood!) either as a buyer or a seller. Great place to do business!! 0 -
Blue Dog is who we are with now. The processors all determine your rates on the level of sales you do, so I'd call around to a few and see who is going to give you the best figures and make them all compete for your business. One thing I insist on is having the fees taken out of the batches each night and not at a later date. I don't like trying to sort out what needs to stay in the account to cover things, so that is one thing a you might think about when setting things up. 0 -
As a buyer immediate check out is convenient. I'll mail money orders and as some people only sell occasionally that is the best option for that seller. If you are doing any volume in a regular basis I suggest accepting either, money order or credit cards. I personally do not even have a paypal account. 0 -
A few of us around here will take personal checks. As a seller, you just need to wait until it clears into your account, and then ship the item. As a buyer, you need patience, but have the option to cancel payment anytime, especially if the payment gets lost in the mail. Some people only take USPS M/O's, and IMO, if cash can be faked, so can they. As far as CC's go, I am not sure if you can get set up that way if you are a private seller, and not a business.. Avoid P/P, they are the Gustapo of the evil fleabay.. Good luck, and welcome! 0 -
Many thanks for all of the guidance! I am very excited to get started here. 0 -
When you list your first item in the auctions, come back and link it into the forums for "A Shameless Plug." You seem like a pleasant gentleman. Welcome to our forum. 3 -
Last payment transaction I made was with PayPal. Seller said to us it and after a few hit and misses it went through, not a small amount either. 0
