Any kind of fried fish. Bluegill, Catfish, Tilapia, Halibut, Cod, etc. etc.
Love it. Slaw, french fries, hush puppies, etc. Absolutely love it. One of my favorite all time foods.
Fried bluegill, rocks! (Mouth watering.)

Darn good stuff and I will add fried yellow perch and walleye to the fish list of favorites!

So is cold water smallmouth bass. We call those 10-12" ones "sandwich bass" because the two fillets will nicely fill a hoagie roll - or make two tacos. 6 -
Bluegill and Crappie are the only fish I eat. Never had a bad one .

You guys haven't lived until you've had properly prepared sockeye salmon. The. Best. Fish. EVER! 0 -
Bluegill is #1 on my hit parade, with walleye as #2. One time in my life I had all the bluegill I could eat, which was a lot. Walleye not yet. 3 -
Bluegill is my favorite. There may be better fish out there but I haven't had the pleasure of trying them. I like all fish that I have tried. Like Rocky said, spring caught small mouth and spotted bass from the local creeks is good table fare. IMO salmon and tuna are different classes of food than white fleshed fish you can deep fry. I like both, I like trout too. Crappie, bluegill, google eye (rock bass) sunfish, small mouth, spotted bass and catfish are mainly what I catch around here. Sometime I fish sauger or white bass from the Ohio River. Not many walleye here and yellow perch hang out further north, but I like both when I have caught them when traveling.
Where ever I go I like to partake of the natural resources and fishing is the easiest and least expensive way to do that. So I've eaten fish from several state's waters.0 -
I've got a freezer full of Striper fillets...This post will have some of them out this week...

I hate bluegills.
Have never eaten one, but was swimming out at the end of the dock one morning and one of the little bastards bit my left nipple. This was 10+ years ago, and to this day it hurts in cold weather.0 -
Corn meal based batter? (I would assume.)
Pictures or it didn't happen. 😉
Yes, I love a good baked Salmon filet. I used to get them all the time up North. (Once a week or every other week fare.) Good seafood deals on a regular basis.
Down here in Mtn. City, TN. Not so much. (Pretty much all frozen) and nothing a "good deal."
Last good fish meal I had was when my BIL came to our area (a couple years ago) when my Son was in visiting from out West. They went Trout fishing. (why my BIL was in our area.) I requested rather than catch and release, they bring some trout home. Got about 8 Rainbow and Browns.
Placed a row of fresh from the garden asparagus in the bottom of a pyrex baking dish. A little butter, a little white wine. Trout with lemon slices inside over the top of the asparagus. Salt/pepper. Steamed then baked the trout. It was exquisite. I heard my Mom telling someone, that I was a much better cook than she was. 😁
I have my moments.

No batter, just breading. 3 parts cornmeal and 1 part flour. Salt the fish on both sides and let set for a few minutes then toss it around. The salt adds flavor of course but it also draw moisture to the surface creating a nice slimy film for the breading to cling to. I usually add a little salt and pepper to the breading mix. Roll the fish in the breading or pour the breading in a bread sack and shake the fish in the bag coating them with the breading. Fry in oil at 375-400 degrees. I usually use an electric skillet. Cast iron works, I've found stainless doesn't work that well and I don't know why, probably me not getting the heat right..
I may post my hushpuppy recipe, the best I've ever eaten.0 -
Don, If you like fish at all you are being deprived not to have had a mess of fried bluegill. If you ever get in my part of the country I'll try to cook you up a mess.Don McManus said:I hate bluegills.

Don, my suggestion is to get even and bite them right back.
Scouts, your method is just fine - but next time add a heaping spoonful of Old Bay to the breading.

I've do that sometimes, works on some other fish too. I clean fish all kinds of ways. The tastiest is to scale them and leave the skin on. I filet most fish anymore.ltcdoty said:0 -
Neighbor, skins, guts and de heads them, into the pressure cooker they go and after a little more work you have the best fish cakes ever. 0 -
Blessed to have a large decommissioned gravel pit lake almost in my back yard . Between 75 to a 100 acres in size , full of bream , crappie and bass and catfish . All excellent eating . At most about 10 people have access to it . Dress them out , coat in cornmeal and fry away , just drop a little old bay , salt and black pepper in the cornmeal .

Gills are of the perch family, I like perch of all kinds very well. Some folks don't because they say it tastes fishy. What in the heck do you think it supposed taste like, chicken? 0 -

Bluegills are in the sunfish family. Perch, walleye and sauger are in the "perch" group.

Sorry, CRS here 0 -
I went out to my small town creek and hooked a 10" Brown Trout yesterday morning. Ate the little fella for breakfast this AM in the style my granddad taught me years ago. A traditional English breakfast.
It was just plain YUMMY!
