There's 2 different type grips (round butt and square butt), make sure you get what fits......a mistake I once made

It's cut for a square butt, so either round or square would fit. But, S&W makes that design for several size frames. I suspect yours is intended for the 586/686, & other L frame revolvers. Only way to be sure is to try them.....

the screw location doesn't appear to be in correct location for J frame, looks more like K or L frame to me

I don't have a 'J' to compare it to but it doesn't come close to a 'k' sq butt

It's a J frame round butt. Like a Bodyguard or a Chief Special.
