It crossed my mind, but no.
I need to research the best way to refurbish it. my first thought is to lightly wire brush the bottom, which has the thickest rust, and then sand blast it. That's the outside. The inside is in good shape.0 -
Evapo-Rust is the best stuff I have found. I had a revolver with 1/4" of solid rust and after soaking overnight it was cleaned to bare metal. I don't know if it would be a problem that you will be cooking in it so you might want to give the company a call. I have used it on several really rusty guns and tools and it removes all of the rust and leaves the metal bare. A great product. 0 -

i agree with ricci, evapo rust is good stuff. you really cant hurt it tho, its cast iron. clean it with powered wire brushes, manuel wire brushes, sand blast, whatever. when your are finished just re-season the iron. by the way i find a gas grill is a good way to season iron, will get plenty hot and keep the heat out of the house. short of breaking it there is little you can do to hurt it. my mother in law would buy a lot of "decorative" cast iron at flea markets where they would paint it instead of season it. i have it now, and i put it on a very hot grill or burner and burned all the paint off. i do mean hot by the way. then i seasoned it properly and now have some very nice pieces of cookware. 0 -
