Wife is manager of a middle school cafeteria . It is one of 10 feeding sites in the county . For school kids  while school is cancelled . Will be running till the end of the month . She states the folks that have showed up are unreal. Many driving very nice cars , while collecting lunches for 5 and 6 kids . Greed at its finest

I try not to judge a situation by looking at the person.   It might be that they were fine until the crap hit the fan.....lots of people are laid off and cannot file for unemployment.    I'm just happy there are people wonderful enough to get out and help people these days.    Its gotten so ugly and the news is always so bad.    Its nice to see a glimmer of kindness happening.   Even if there are a good number of people getting the help that truly don't need it....imagine the people that are in that line that REALLY needed that little bit of assistance.

      my take
countless people live paycheck to pay check  as a kid I lived it along with many of our neighbors just a way of life it seemed
even the place I retired from that paid very well with very good benefits ( people went crazy when they were hired like winning the lottery ) they paid 2x at least more than any other place around .
I could only guess  (  a lot ) the people that told me if they missed one day it would kill them on monthly bills
during a slow down in the sales ( happened several times while I was there car sales do fluctuate )  they had for many years for the most part all the OT you wanted there was always some project(s) going on even just cleaning and keeping the place painted  floors guards machinery etc
back to my point every time they would tighten the belt on OT or cut it out  countless people would flood administration crying  about lack of income  and cant not pay bills
when hired in so many ran out and bought or built huge houses bought two new cars ,boats, bikes, motorcycles all the toys any one could want  they had borrowed every penny they could + more based on working OT every week some did 30 hours+ a week  just OT    lots of married couples both working there
the company always put out notices do not buy or spend based on OT its not a sure thing but still many did
and then we come to people who if its free its for me I know lots of people who do not need it but will get on every free program the city, state ,and government offers  by hook or crook , food banks are a given to them
there is people who do need it  I would guess 1/4 of who take advantage should get it as the ones lined up
I grew up in a poor neighborhood food stamps and welfare was more often then not , the kids got very little while there  mom and dad got new clothes  booze cigarettes and  sold off food stamps for 50 cents on the dollar  to get cash  the kids looked like rag muffins dirty worn out clothes . it  still makes me mad ( mom and dad lucky for me were  poor but honest  above that level  and dad would work at what ever he could to avoid the free lunch group )

I’m driving a bus that is delivering food to kids age 1-18. Most are underprivileged, but some are well employed. There is no restriction as far as income. All are grateful for what they receive and some even decline when we stop at their house. Since March 15, we have delivered 8400 meals.

County runs the school bus route here  with meals for the students. Many think that the school lunch is about the only good meal the children get in a days time.

schools feed kids three times a day  all year in a lot of areas yet mom gets $$$ for each one free rent free food and here we are feeding the kids on top of it . I do not want to see the kids go hungry but we need a system no EBT card no money each week you get the food staples your family needs at a local food bank no prime rib for mom and the baby's  daddy (s)

    Yep,
I have never been a fan of the welfare state, but I know a number of restaurateurs, physical therapists, dentists, and the list of occupations goes on.... Let me stop and I think you get the point.
These folks work hours well in excess of 40 hours a week and their source of income has stopped.  Several have refused to take government money because they are proud. Many are living on savings. I know of more than one who went thru one of the food lines in my state.
