Truly our greatest generation and it has been downhill ever since. My dad was also there (1908 - 1997). I have wondered what his thoughts would be on our reaction to the covid19 situation. I never saw him over react to anything. I think what he went through in Europe made everything else pale by comparison. Bob

My dad had just joined the Navy and was in basic when the Nazis surrendered.  Everyone rejoiced but still knew that the Pacific war and the invasion of the home islands lay ahead.
Thank God for the scientists at Los Alamos.

"Thank God for the scientists at Los Alamos."
Amen to that!  Probably saved my grand-pappy's life.  He was A Sea-Bee in the South Pacific during the war.

In one of the final episodes of Band of Brothers, there is a scene after VE Day , where the troops are watching a movie tone news film of the GI's and Marines on Okinawa burning out Japanese troops from a cave. The guys watching the film, look around at each other uncomfortably..
