Pretty Butterfly

This rascal has been hanging out on my porch for the past three days.  About 4 inches long.

     yep nice photo and enjoy seeing them  I rarely see any of the larger moths even butterfly's any more around us maybe a couple in the fall just  to much pesticides 
    we have about a acre or so we let grow wild.  lot of milkweed and some wild flowers not much but its our small effort to help them

    What type of milkweed do you have? We planted tropical, balloon, and giant milkweed. I'm wanting to get some native varieties.

    local county extension office should be able to tell what species of milkweed are local ..out of the large number of varieties. or transplant some out of a local creek bottom pasture......land owner would probably luv to see em gone

    Milkweed is an easy to grow plant from seed.  Just let the pods on a mature plant dry out a bit and broadcast over the ground of a sunny area.  No need to even cover the seeds, as they need sunlight to germinate.

    It is a pretty rare moth around here speaking of the Luna.  We get mostly those large types that produce Tomato Horn Worms. :s

    not sure of the variety it just comes up wild from previous years we have let grow for a long time  , we really do not add or take any thing ( except poison ivy if it shows up )  some years more  grows up than other's   if you remind me later on in the fall I will try and save some seeds for you if you want them

    Good Lord, don't plant milk weeds, they will over run kudzu.
    I have been told that the sap from milk weed, especially the root, will ease the pain from shingles and not the kind of shingles on top of a house.

    Do you have hummingbird moths over on the west side, kimi?

    We have them over here, and they are as fascinating as are hummingbirds themselves.

    I remember them from the Lunesta commercials. Every now and again I'll see Atlas Moths at my job. Big some britches like a small bat.
