If you get up that way, be sure to take one of the fastest ferries in the World. "The Cat." A huge modern catamaran. It runs up and down the coast of Maine, and over to Nova Scotia. I have been to the coast of Maine 11-12 times easy. Camping and sea kayaking all over. Beautifull up there. Pig out on seafood. Little places right on the dock, where they are unloading fishing/Lobster boats while they throw your lobster in a steamer while you sit feet away fighting off the seagulls, enjoying the setting sun etc. Whalewatching cruises, large 2-3 masted sailing trips.

Ogunquit, Boothbay Harbor, Stonington Isle, Bar Harbor, Acadia, etc. Good times.

    Sorry about your trip.

I'll second the Maine idea. We went there last year, stayed in a former sailing captain's mansion (VRBO) in Portland and drove to various coastal places from there. Fabulous trip. We'll go again, but next time we'll stay at one of the many little resorts between Portland and Bah Hahbah to be in better reach in both directions. (Not that I'd ever go to Bar Harbor again in summer - it's a major headache tourist trap.)

If you want a real off the grid experience in Maine, go to Monhegan Isle. An artist colony the farthest offshore Isle year round inhabited on the coast of Maine. Definitely not "Touristy." No vehicles allowed beyond the few local older vehicles. B&B's can be had if you book ahead. A several hour boatride to get there. A hidden Treasure most don't know about.

    Like stepping back in time.

As a Christmas gift we gave my daughter and her boyfriend a trip to Hawaii, they were scheduled to travel in June. We just cancelled flights and hotel ( we will reschedule for next Summer )

Two friends of mine went up there bear hunting last year. I saw them back in town two days after they left.
“Thought y’all went bear hunting?” I asked.
”We did” said one. “But when we got to Vermont, a sign on the interstate said ‘Maine, bear left’, so we had to come home.”
