Saved Three Baby Eagles - Lucky Little Fellas!!
Sunday night, we had some crazy storms come through - worst of the year so far. Probably 6 inches of rain and hurricane-like winds. In any case, last night I was running with my girls by the river (State Park beside us) and we noticed that the Bald Eagle's nest that had been up in a big tree all Spring was gone. I immediately figured it had to be the storm, and we headed off into the woods to investigate. Sure enough, we found the nest spread all over the bluff. At first, I couldn't find anything.........but then there he was....and then another....and then another. Two baby eagles were huddled under a bush, and one was caught down on the side of the bluff close to the water. I thought for a second about scooping them up, but then I realized just how big these suckers are. They might not be ready to fly.....but they are still quite large. Figured I'd like to keep my eyes and fingers, so I got ahold of the ranger, and the state biologist came out to scoop 'em up. All three are doing well, and will be vacationing at the area wildlife rehab center until they are big enough to release.
A good day, and my little girls loved it! We see the eagles just about every day, so it was really nice that we could find these guys and get them some help.

Job well done! It is good to see eagles returned to the lower 48 and grow in numbers. 0 -
You da man! Judy and I check some of the eagle nest sites like Decorah online. They are truly majestic birds and it is great you stood up to help. Well done! Bob 0 -

That is one of those lifetime memories you just made for your daughters!! 70 years from now when your girls are talking to their great grand kids the story will come up about how their great great grandfather saved three bald eagles!! Way to go!!! 0 -

I have a pair that has nested in the swamp/ woods behind my house for the last 3 or 4 years . See them frequently hunting in the fields behind the house . No idea as to just where the nest is .

Can they return with Mom & Dad...or are they rescue to adulthood?
Since the nest was destroyed, they'll have to grow up before being released. However, they'll likely be released back here, so we may be able to be there for it, and then get to watch them as adults if they hang around the area.

Good people do good things, and teach that to their children.
We don't have hardly any left around these parts since the ospreys came back for nesting season.
They're like cats n dogs!0 -

Those little guys look really fierce! Think you did right calling the experts. Would have been a real shame to have the rescue result in injuries to either side. Just curious, did the parents hang around to try to help the chicks as some birds do? 0 -
I didn't see the Dad, but Mama (bigger one) was sitting in the tree right above the baby eagles when we found them. She flew away, but continued to fly back by and circle around. With the nest trashed, there was nothing much she could do, though. I was a little concerned about getting some Mama talons in my back, but she kept her distance.gartman said:Those little guys look really fierce! Think you did right calling the experts.
