Bidding on an Item

Is it required to have some sort of payment associated with my Gunbroker account to bid on an item (firearm)?

    No, Gun Broker collects no fees from bidders; only from the sellers. Payment is made in accordance with the seller's rules as outlined in the listing.

    Received the following when I attempted to bid on an item:  
    "In order to perform this action you need to have a valid automatic payment method on file.
    If you are unable to resolve this problem, please contact Customer Support. Please include the entire error message in your report."

    Emailed GunBroker support for resolution twice but no response.

    The forum is totally unrelated to the auction site so it may be the result of a change in policy. The obvious solution would be to set up the automatic payment, otherwise wait on Customer Support to address the issue. Understand that each new Customer Service contact on the same issues starts a new claim which then puts you at the back of the line. That has been policy since day one and I highly doubt it will change.

    The were rumors that you now need a CC on file to bid. I had used the instant checkout feature prior to the rumors, so gave not entered one separately, but one is on file.

    I believe  you need some kind of payment method on file to have a valid buyers/sellers account  , without that you can't buy or sell

    The two members who responded are well respected members of our forum, so I delved deeper into the issue and came upon an update to the User Agreement and Site Rules from four months ago which would tend to indicate that it is now necessary to have a credit card on file in order to bid on the Gun broker auctions.

     I think it will keep some people out of the sight just by doing that who have no purpose but to run afoul the Gunbroker buyers and sellers.

    Mark, Been buying on auction side for about 20 years I guess. I never go thru set up that some sellers have with GB. I also never bid on a item unless seller will take USPS Money Order. If there is fraud you don't want a postal inspector on your case for Mail Fraud if you are a seller. I always contact seller immediately and send FFL and USPS Money Order in the mail right away. Neither GB or a seller has ever objected to me for doing business this way. I just put a bid in on a shotgun tonight  and GB did not ask me for a credit card. If they did I would not be happy at all.---------------Ray

    15 years ago when I signed up on the auction side I entered credit card information to set up the account.  The card was charged one dollar.  I still have a one dollar credit on my account.  I've never sold anything on the site.

    The cc I used when I first signed up is long gone.  If I use immediate check out I enter my current cc information at the time of check out.   I assumed the initial one dollar charge  15 years ago was just a verification process.  But I wouldn't really know.  I've been buying for 15 years and have never entered another card into the system.
