My first 22 rifle!! An 1890 Winchester!! What was yours??
I was a normal 12-13 year old boy. I had a pump gun that would fire when you pinned the trigger back and worked the pump. Trust me, you do not need a semi-auto rifle to burn ammo!! 
My rifle was never a tack driver but I could pour enough lead at what I was shooting at that almost always one of the bullets flying down range would hit what I was aiming at!!
I worked at my Grandmother's grocery store all week to make enough money to order a brick of 22 LRs from Grandma's distributor, (Yeah, you could buy ammo at grocery stores in the 50s) so I was shooting at cost. Every Saturday, me, my 1890 and my brick of ammo rode on my bike several miles outside of town.
Unless it started raining not one round of that brick 22s would ever make it back to town!! I can work any pump gun in my sleep to this day!!

Winchester Model 1906 when I was twelve. Little brother got a matching one. The Christmas before my dad passed away. 0 -
I also have the first .22 my dad owned (Stevens Favorite bought for $5 used in 1935) and the first .22 my uncle owned (a Win. Model 72 he got for his 10th birthday in 1939). Lots of memories when I get the old .22s out. 0 -
First one shot was an Ithaca 49. First one I owned was a Sears Ted Williams branded Winchester Model 250 I bought saving the $6 a week paper route money I earned. 7yrs later did a couple of trades with that ending with a brand new Ruger 10/22. Now I have one safe that's full of .22's. 0 -

My first .22 was a shaky old Stevens Favorite that I liberated from my great uncle after the 1951 flood. He wouldn't retrieve it from the old shack he was living in. I always wanted a pump Winchester so when I could afford it I went .22 crazy. My last two were an 1890 LR and a model 75 Sporting.. 0 -

J. C. Higgins built by the old High Standard. High Standard never built that model (30) under their own name, just for Sears. Semi Auto. Still have it, still shoots better than I do. Put a lot of rabbits and squirrels on the table with that one. 0 -

Mohawk, that Winchester has sentimental value beyond belief. I'm glad you got that before his passing. Good memories are so important. 3 -

My first .22 rifle is my M.O.A. receiver build using only ebay purchased parts. They were banning gun parts and they wanted to be on that high horse. As my one finger salute I put one together. Spent more than I should've because of the individual shipping (no free shipping back then). I wonder if it took me longer to find and build than ebay doing about face on their policy? 0 -
I Got a Glenfield 60 for Christmas in '73. $39.95 at K-Mart IIRC.
I burned through brick after brick of ammo, to the point that I got sort of tired of it. One summer I swapped it for an Ithaca 49 and have loved single shots ever since. I kick myself at least once a week for trading it off.

When i was 8 , Dad won a Winchester 190 in a contest and gave it to me,, I shot it so much after about a year it would double about every other trigger pull,, After about a month of that it would go full auto most of the time.. being a kid i thought it was great.. First time my Father saw it dump 10 rounds in about 2 seconds it went away and he gave me his model 62 Winchester that he owned since his youth,, I still have it

My dad told me that he got it from a friend of his own father's after being challenged to climb a fence for it as a young kid himself. Then, in Amarillo, TX he found the same model for sale in a pawn shop down the street from his law office. He bought it and that is how my brother and I ended up with them. I was the oldest son, so I got the "original".0 -

Marlin model 99-C. Got it for Christmas in 1964. Still have it. Much nicer than the later and similar model 60. It has a nice walnut stock and a gold plated trigger. 0 -
