different boats
After reading some pretty harsh comments arguing over reopening or completely shutting down for another two weeks, someone in their right mind wrote this.
Don’t know who wrote it, but it’s spot on.
Perspective:
WE ARE NOT IN THE SAME BOAT ...
I heard that we are all in the same boat, but it's not like that. We
are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Your ship could be
shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa.
For some, quarantine is optimal. A moment of reflection, of re-connection, easy in flip flops, with a cocktail or coffee. For others, this is a desperate financial & family crisis.
For some that live alone they're facing endless loneliness. While for others it is peace, rest & time with their mother, father, sons & daughters.
With the $600 weekly increase in unemployment some are bringing in more money to their households than they were working. Others are working more hours for less money due to pay cuts or loss in sales.
Some families of 4 just received $3400 from the stimulus while other families of 4 saw $0.
Some were concerned about getting a certain candy for Easter while others were concerned if there would be enough bread, milk and eggs for the weekend.
Some want to go back to work because they don't qualify for unemployment and are running out of money. Others want to kill those who break the quarantine.
Some are home spending 2-3 hours/day helping their child with online schooling while others are spending 2-3 hours/day to educate their children on top of a 10-12 hour workday.
Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone from it and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it. Others don't believe this is a big deal.
Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020. Others say the worst is yet to come.
So, friends, we are not in the same boat. We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different.
Each of us will emerge, in our own way, from this storm. It is very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance. Not just looking, actually seeing.
We are all on different ships during this storm experiencing a very different journey.
Realize that and be kind.

i couldn’t agree more with the OP. I have over 70 employees, we work in a essential retail and my take in this whole thing has been. That everyone is dealing with this in their own way. Just because it is not my way doesn’t mean it isn’t right. My way my not be the right way but it is the way I am dealing with it. Some people are taking advantage of the situation some are happy not to be stuck at home. We are doing everything in our power to stay safe. I am there for my team at anytime. In the last 8 weeks I have taken 6 days off, not because I could have had more time off but because I want/need to be there. The first few weeks had nothing to do with the virus more to do with the job. I have had employees of all ages (18-70 plus years old) come to me for advise on how to handle this. I tell all of them how I am dealing with it, but this is not a one size fits all deal and that it is ok not to agree with me. One thing I can tell you sure that not one person that I have working for me has ever dealt with anything close to this and that it ok to be unsure of what to do, I know I don’t have all the answers. I will continue to be therefor my team. As I tell my wife every night “we got this”. I am not sure what this will look like in the next year or 2 but I have the ability to provide for my family with or without my job, I hope that it doesn’t come to that but we will survive.

Nothing changed around here the whole time except the lakes are full of fishermen in their boats all week now instead of just on the weekends. And of course Walmart had to come up with something stupid by having people standing outside milling around together waiting to get inside one at a time so they can social distance from each other while shopping and walking in one direction up and down the isles.
Walk in restaurants stayed open the whole time in this area of Georgia.
My neighbors and I haven't seen the first sick person from this virus nor do we know of anyone in our families or group of friends that have gotten sick. Far as I'm concerned as I've been saying the whole time it's a bunch of liberal media BS! The flu season here last year was a whole lot worse.
Only thing this has done is assured that republicans will walk or crawl if need be to the polls to vote during an Earthquake, hurricane, tornado, with forest fires all around with reports of incoming asteroids with the possibility of an alien invasion going on at the same time in order to make sure the dumbass democrats don't win.3 -
