    Don't waste big gun ammo, one 50 cal AP round in the engine will suffice. Let them drift around until their buddies rescue them.

    I couldn't make out what the Iranian on the fast boat was saying, but he may have been offering the crew members on the Navy ships a chance to go water skiing.
    But, if you think that they aren't friendly, you might want to take out the deck gunner behind the mounted MGD 12.7mm first.  Then, go for the engine.

    I went through Gunners Mate School in 1977 with an Iranian chief and a 2nd class PO's. Then in1980 I was in the Persian Gulf during the hostage crisis, we were harassed. Both of the PO's were assholes, some boats made it home, I know one personally that didn't because of a few 1/2" BB's.   :smiley:

    Iran has struck the hornets nest with a stick. 
    They should KNOW the rules, the rule is (or should be) one mile from any US warship, steering on a steady course that does not intercept our line of advance.  Break that rule and get a hellfire up your butt.  NO WARNING SHOTS WILL BE EXPENDED.    We are cranky from the lock down and are not going to put up with much from Islamic nutcases.

    The Vulcan cannon can be tasked as a fly swatter to great effect.  Much more so than a manually trained 50.  Perhaps the GMs in today's Navy are much better trained with the 50 than they were in the late 70s and early 80s, but drills during that time showed me that one of the safest places in the Persian Gulf was inside an inflated trash bag being targeted by a pinnacle mount Ma Duece.

    It's about time. They (the Iranians) have been pushing the envelope way too often in regards to these "Close Passes." If they were getting within' "10 yards of the Coast Guard cutter Maui," one of these times it will contain a bomb ala' the Cole. We do not need that repeat. Think the Russians would have tolerated close passes?

    Our Sailors and Marines deserve protection, and I am sure they are more than ready to unload on these A $ $ Hats.

    It's my understanding that they have adopted a helicopter gunship helmet and controls to link with the phalanx and goalkeeper systems on US naval vessels allowing local control and use like a point and shoot fire hose...

    Drills on my ship were successful, we shot empty 5"54 powder and sono buoy tubes, not trash bags.
