I picked up my two nucs this morning. Opened them at the small opening in front and set them on their stand to let the little winged honey makers get acclimated.

    After last years production from my garden they'd be more than welcome here this year. I made a serious mistake in insecticide, should've known better ....... I learned my lesson well  ;)

    Ohhhh nooo.....I never worked with the hives myself.    I watched and listened to everyone here that actually did all the work, so I learned a little bit about what was going on.   I just stay too busy to take on anything that I can't just drop and pick back up when things calm back down.      I love having them around and if my friend ever wants to remove the last hive from here that we gave him I think I'll ask him to leave me a box so I can get something going.

    The funniest thing I remember when this all began was getting the kids up for school......walking downstairs and getting my coffee.    I was standing at the front door looking at the CLOUD of bees flying all over the place.   Karen came staggering down the stairs and I said "your bees are acting crazy today"......she walked over to the door and started FREAKING OUT.   She yelled out....."MOM!!!!   Thats not ok....they are swarming!!!   I've got to call Jeff!!"    I've never seen her move that fast before.

    Food for thought, swarming bees will rarely sting unless mashed.
    When a swarm leaves the hive they they are looking for a new home, most often they will settle on a nearby tree limb or bush with queen protected inside the swarm. While all this is going on a scout bee is looking  for the new home. They will stay there until scout returns, might be a few minutes or several hours. If you can get to the swarm it is a good time to capture the bees and put them in a new hive body.
