From the Link:Los Angeles (April 20, 2020) - USC and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) today released preliminary results from a collaborative scientific study that suggests infections from the new coronavirus are far more widespread - and the fatality rate much lower - in L.A. County than previously thought. The results are from the first round of an ongoing study by USC researchers and Public Health officials. They will be conducting antibody testing over time on a series of representative samples of adults to determine the scope and spread of the pandemic across the county.
Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600.
"We haven't known the true extent of COVID-19 infections in our community because we have only tested people with symptoms, and the availability of tests has been limited," said lead investigator Neeraj Sood, a USC professor of public policy at USC Price School for Public Policy and senior fellow at USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. "The estimates also suggest that we might have to recalibrate disease prediction models and rethink public health strategies."
The results have important implications for public health efforts to control the local epidemic.
"These results indicate that many persons may have been unknowingly infected and at risk of transmitting the virus to others," said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health. "These findings underscore the importance of expanded polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing to diagnose those with infection so they can be isolated and quarantined, while also maintaining the broad social distancing interventions."
As most of us assumed, the infection rate, and the survival rate are vastly higher than what is being reported. So rather than testing being the key to control, widespread infection and recovery is already well on its way to controlling the virus. Obviously the LA County Dept. of Public Health will draw the conclusion they did, which means more testing and more control of the people.
However, the logical conclusion is that widespread infection results in widespread immunity, something that the 'shut up and go home' would be dictators are hampering. It is beginning to look like they know this, but are so invested in the sick little myth that their dictates are making a significant difference they will stubbornly stick to the destruction of our economy and our country just to save face.
Regarding the CDC and the first tests. An effort was made to rush testing kits out in the face of a growing epidemic. In their haste, a mistake was made. It happens to the best of us, and while it is too bad that it happened, it is ridiculous to make a big deal over it. The tests did not hurt anyone. The delay in testing most likely had little effect upon the results we are seeing now, just a the intrusive testing that some are suggesting will have little effect upon how the virus is controlled in the future.

In Washington State, hospitalizations had leveled off around 20 March and our governor implemented a lock down on 23 March. Over the next few days, hospitalizations stayed steady and began to drop. He claims credit to the lockdown, but it is obvious the drop was in process prior to the lockdown.
The fact is that the citizens of the state did what they felt to be responsible on an individual basis. Traffic in restaurants and Barr’s was down, but they still were open. Some companies began work from home programs on their own. Most people, however, seemed to look at this as akin to a severe flu season and went about their daily lives with that thought.
The obvious point is that this is an issue that is solved by individuals and individual immune systems leading to a resolution based upon our collective immune system. Draconian measures bt governments may be making a small difference, but resolution is and always will be with the people.

Don, agreed, Resolution will always be with the people. Meant how much more can I do except wear my mask and keep my distance and one trip per week for groceries. Last night found some vitamin "C" in Shoprite. First I have seen in over six weeks.
I thought it interesting that a autopsy done on two individuals turned up positive for virus in early February long before first death was reported. I think those two were in Washington State and not travel related. Sounds like this beast been around for a while?0 -

A friend of mine had a low grade fever for a week or so in mid-December. He mentioned it to his primary care physician about a month ago, and the doctor told him that there was a very good chance it was Covid-19. Guy is in his late 60s and in excellent health. Anecdotal, sure, but I think it is safe to say it was here not too long after it first transferred to humans/escaped/or was released in Wuhan.0 -

As much as I don't want to believe it, you are probably correct. My hunting partner is a Berlin trained toolmaker. He worked for some of the biggies in this country and finished his career with about 18 years at IBM in R&D. Walks in room with engineer and scientist and they say can you build it? Electrical Discharge Molding and tolerances so close piece is out of specs if you touch it. X Ring.Blame the Chinese if you wish to home in the target and then all the protocols failures after that with free and rapid travel plans with a Temp check when your asymptomatic to get home in time. Like the 4 million out of Wuhan the night before the lock down.The CDC are clowns to begin with along with the WHO. All these so call failures are all just coincidences right? None dare call it a conspiracy.
