Technological Fun with Old People -
My Sister hooked my Mom up with a new smartphone, and an I-Pad. (Both set to "Senior mode," so we can communicate/face time.)
Trying to educate her? Priceless.
She is gonna need help from the nurses.

Sister and I both spent a couple hours with her in the car, trying to show her the basics, on the way to the Rehab facility. More time in her room. She was starting to get it. (Basically.)
Some nurses were like "yeah, no problem. We got this." Others were like, ""Uhmmn, Er.........we are going to have to find someone else to help with this."
Phone and I-pad both set up to go to a clear Call list of her friends/relatives when it opens, the I-pad to open up to "Face time," calls. Touch a name, it calls that person. (No visits for next two months.)
Trying to do what we can, in these strange times. (No phones in the rehab rooms.) ??
Mom, seemed fascinated trying to figure out the phone in her room, before we left. She will have a lot more fun with the Tablet. (Internet access if she goes there.)
I set both of them up with more time on them, before automatic shutdown, in order to give her more time to figure them out, as she plays with them. (She kept getting "timed out.")
My Sister was mumbling, "I should have just bought her a flip phone," when we were driving home. I told her - "She has plenty of time on her hands to play with stuff, and figure it out over the next couple months."

She kept "whapping it," with her finger. We were like, "No, you only have to lightly touch it, and only on the function you want."

I feel your pain folks, been trying for years to teach my dad (Heāll be 90 in June.) how to navigate the cable remote for his TV. No matter how many ways I try, all heāll do is 2-3-4-5...etc. 180+ channels and this is what goes on. Ugh!! (Flip phone only, and please, donāt even mention āThe Computerā, as he refers to anything beyond the flip phone.)

Just got off the phone with Mom. 30-40 seconds of fumbling around, background noise. "Hello?" (Me laughing.)
Hi Mom, how's it going?
"The people here are great, very caring. The food is excellent." (We were told multiple time it was.) "They had me up and walking today in Physical Therapy." (Awesome news!) All sounds good. Very pleased.
They brought in a very plush remote controlled recliner for her, as opposed to the bare bones vinyl recliner she could not manipulate due to leg strength. I had coordinated with the Maintenance Repair guy before we left. He showed me what he had in mind to move in to here room. Double thumbs up.
All sounds good.
Continued Prayers for my Mom, would be most appreciated.

My wifeās brother got an iPad a few years back. He had never fooled with anything technical. It laid around his house for some time, he said he didnāt have time to learn it. I started showing him some auctions on Gun Broker, and it was off to the races. He would come over and have my wife enter his bids. If he won something, sheād have to complete the check out for him. Took me a while to explain the bidding process, 15 minute rule, etc.Ā
He has a cell phone but doesnāt have any contacts or voicemail set up. He carries a little book with a few phone numbers in it.0 -

The first and last text message I ever got from my mom said "whaddyou want" 3 -
On it Barz. I appreciate you though Brother. All her electronics are marked, and engraved. It was all brought forward when we checked her in. This place has not had one negative review in the past 8 years. (5 star rated.) Owner lives right next door. We were told "per arbitration, we have 60 days to resolve any issue. The owner gives us about 60 minutes to resolve any situation that arises."
Rehab therapy 5 days a week. They had her up and on her feet today. (1st day in the facility.) Food (and per my Mom today,) is excellent. Rehydration carts through the facility all day long. "Would you like anything to drink sweetheart?" (Again as relayed by intake and my Mom today.) My Mom said "the people could not be any nicer." We were quite pleased on intake and what we have heard from my Mom in the subsequent 24 hours.
Sounds very positive.
