Sleeving a Martini Henry Rifle Barrel
I found a carbine in my shop from long ago that some ungrateful person cut a slot across the barrel at the receiver with a saw. I would like to find a .303 barrel sleeve to slide into the barrel an just epoxy it in. then just changing the extractor as needed. Not sure if any one has tried this before or if there is a source for the sleeve. Like to hear your thoughts on this.

probably better to weld the barrel , smooth the OD then replace a liner ( no weak or soft spot) mike Sayers of TJ's Enterprises 3652 Keltner rd Akexanderia VA 41001 859 635 5560 see what he can do ???? consider other caliber and costs .....maybe cheaper to go another route altogether 0 -
I think you may find decent replacement OEM BBL's readily available and possibly still somewhat affordable...
Not picking on your project plans - a .303 British conversion to return it to shooter status while retaining it's chambering in a cartridge of the empire a spot on course of action...
But I have 4 rifles in .303 British already - and a full return to .577 - 450 martini Henry would seem more than appropriate and to cool for school...
Just throwing that out there - absent a conversion to one of the Rook family of straight cased or slightly tapered odd bespoke target practice rounds - or the .310 Cadet it seems a viable choice.

I wanted to take 557/450 barrel an put a sleeve inside that would be a .303 . My thinking that is the extra metal would handle standard loads or lower lead cast ammo. I know a regular .303 barrel can be put on action. But I would like to keep the profile of the firearm. 0 -

At one time, Atlanta cutlery had barrels and they later sold all their Martini stuff to IMA, I would contact IMA to see if they have parts and just replace the barrel.
I would be leery of using your receiver and re-barreling to 303.
303 Martinis were proofed at a much higher pressures than the 577/450 a black powder round.
JMHO, I would have reservations of epoxy in a barrel liner, especially a high pressure cart. Solder can survive the heat, plus you have to worry about bullet thrust.
Allin conversions were soldered and most old school smiths I know silver and sweat soldered in linings. If there are other means today to install a barrel liner other than some type of weld or solder, I am unaware of it.
Have several different Marks and shoot frequently only with BP and cases made from 24 Ga brass.0 -
Chief yes i thought of the pressure curve. I would silver solder if that is the need to due. My main shooting ammo is case bullets. IMA has no barrels, just the whole rifles they want to sell. This is just a kicking around idea. So far anyway/ 0 -
