    Seems too often the dog is just used to punish the perp who is already surrounded by cops and mostly complying.

    Don't think of it as punishment, Gart. Think of it as a learning experience.  The next time one of these dillholes is given the opportunity to choose to run from the cops (and 95% of 'em will get that opportunity!!) they can reflect back on the time the dog got 'em and make a more informed decision.

    Happen to know a canine officer and form his stories seems fairly common to send the dog in for a good chew, just to keep it trained.

      personally don't see the problem in that. as stated if you can't stand the time/pain don't do the crime, no need to run if your innocent

    We only had one K-9 that was trained to leave the guy in uniform alone. If you were chasing a perp & they let a dog go; you froze as the dog would rather chase the moving target. AND, you didn't get too close until the handler had control of his dog or you were likely to get bit.

    I was referring to the videos of the perp surrounded by cops, guns drawn, and they still send in the dog. Hope they are not training the perp to attack the cops and dog to prevent being bitten.

    While not trying to take away from the dog theme here. We moved a bed in the spare bedroom and found nearly 100 small cat toys under it.  There are now mice everywhere.
