Usually a freezer unopened will last more than a day if the food isn't above 40 Feds say you can refreeze it 3 -

Should last more than a day? How hot is it where you are? My freezers will last 2 or 3 days no problem, the worst is that you can still use a lot after defrosting. 3 -
I think we'll be able to save about 1/2 of it lost a lot of my venison that was in the door shelfs looks like that stuff thawed out first doesn't take long in this Florida heat 0 -

Hit craigslist or the commercial stores. Might find a very good used one but proceed with caution when looking at a used one. 0 -

better install an alarm so you know when it’s off.

I had a brand new refrigerator (Whirlpool) fail/ stop working at 1 year 2 months. (2 months beyond warranty.) Had just stuffed it with about $250 in food.
I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool appliance as long as I live.
That sheeit, still makes me mad. 😶

sorry to hear , never good when such things happen
about 40 years ago wife and I went on vacation ( visit her brother in Georgia ) my parents watched our house for us
not sure who but our freezer was on the back porch (enclosed room ) some one unplugged it maybe to plug something else in no matter it happened .
we came home just short of two weeks middle of the summer the whole time the freezer was off .. I can not begin to explain the smell or the liquid that had developed from the food there was, a frozen turkey bloated up in its plastic wrap floating in the freezer can give a mental picture of the mess
at the time tossing the freezer was not a option . so I spent a couple days with bleach and backing soda cleaning it. no fun
and hope I never have to go thru that again3 -
I make it a habit to check our freezers. Both have green lights that tell you all is fine.
Would check your breaker to make sure it is not failing. Usually they start tripping often or random before they fail. When I suspect a CB is going bad, I turn off the main breaker and examine it. Sometimes they arc where the connect to the panel and internally. A visual inspection will reveal arcing. Sometimes they arc enough inside, you can smell it.
CBs can last well over 20 years, however household circuits have a heavy load close to max amps although under max rating tend to fail more often. Seen this a number of times. Most modern freezers today 2-4 amps/200-500 watts. Does not seem like much unless there are other appliances on that particular circuit.0 -
We tried all the surrounding big box stores - nothing. Then we called a mom and pop store. They had several in stock. Anyone have a recommendation for an alarm that lets you know when power dies? Our freezer is in an unattached garage. I’d like an alarm that I can mount under the eave that we can hear in the house... 0 -
I had our refrigerator plugged to a GFI outlet in the garage and I thought something was wrong with the refrigerator because it kept tripping the breaker and then it dawned on me that a refrigerator should not be plugged into a GFI outlet. I moved it to a regular outlet and it's not quit running now for the past 7 years. If yours is on a GFI outlet that's your problem.
I plugged in a night light to the same outlet in the garage that our refrigerator is plugged into. When I go in and out of the garage I always notice that the light is on so I know there's power on it without having to open the refrigerator to check. You could put an extension cord on a night light and put it up to the window in your unattached garage so you could look to see if it's still on from time to time.0
