I picked up 3 Spanish Mauser's of this type during my gunshop working acquisition phase...
I did so not only as part of my Mauser collecting penchant - but specifically because they were chambered in 7X57mm Mauser and had far less recoil than there 8X57mm cousins with there standard 196 grain load out...
One of my guns is all numbers matching and an early piece still sporting it's original rollercoaster rear sight - the other two arsenal rebuilds one with force matched numbers the other simply a non matching bolt...
It has been my observation that somewhere around 90% of these guns are in poor shape - had been used hard and put away wet...
My certainly are not pristine closet queens by any measure.
Initially I picked them up to use as research and test fire subjects - to make certain I had trigger time and historical data on this branch of Mauser variants - part two of my plan was to keep the numbers matching model that somehow escaped upgrades - and to retain the other examples to build out into spotters as I find the mild 7X57mm somewhat forgiving and pleasant to shoot - not a punishing round by any means - and the days of cheap plentiful useable Spanish Mauser's of this type - to be purchased by the barrel full or in large lots had long passed...
I will observe that barreled actions suitable to use as a foundation or platform for a custom spotter in 7mm had largely dried up and had become somewhat pricey over the last 20 years at least IMHO.
This certainly does present an interesting resource for an active gunsmith or a shop that has several qualified gunsmith who can turn out some nice spotters - and maybe there are a few salvageable rarities hidden in this pile worthy of putting back to stock issue configuration.
Very nice all matching examples that function flawlessly and provide a good research subject for Mauser aficionados while still extant and available are surprisingly pricey and while not rare certainly are no longer daily encountered items...
Yes its quite interesting - the possibilities.
Even as an investment to be sorted through and parceled out individually at auction it presents lots of options and avenues of exploration.
This has long been one of my pet cartridges - as it's modest recoil and decent performance envelope are often overlooked - especially for use in carbines or short rifles that are compact and light.
It makes a decent north American game cartridge in my estimation - the Norma oryx offerings providing some interesting numbers...

The 7x57 has long been my favorite medium game cartridge. Handloads in a modern rifle really bring out its potential. This auction looks like nothing more than getting rid of junk no one else would buy. Parts you need are not included and parts you won't need are. I guess if I needed a lot of short fence posts it could be worth it. Bob 0 -
This auction has been going on for along time. Being a parts dealer for the most part of my business. I looked at this very hard. to put these back in shape as shooters only. You would not make any money at all. This would only be a labor of love. Finding the right stocks would be a chore. These might be from the Samco auction.Which everyone knows was under water a few times. This in just my opinion. 0
