Coolest police dog ever...

I've been binge watch the A&E show Live PD and saw an episode last night where someone was fleeing from sheriffs deputies and began tossing away narcotics in heavy brush. Despite a search, the deputies couldn't locate the drugs, so it was time to call for the dog.

The K-9 hoped out of the Chevy Tahoe and gave a look like, "Okay guys, I'm in charge now," and then promptly found several baggies of dope. Even the guy under arrest was impressed: "Dang, that dawg's good."

    I think I get more joy out of watching a good trained obedient dog than actually hunting with one.

    Live PD with Sticks Larson and his other cohorts / cohosts has rapidly become my favorite background noise program when it's on...

    Especially as it seems to run at long clips - 4 to 6 to 8 hour broadcasts...

    I believe they now have progressed from trying to feature police dogs on a daily basis to actually having a spin off sister show that focuses on K9 units...

    It's a solid compelling show IMHO - when I was a kid you had the baseball game on TV while you did chores or worked on projects - now it's live PD.

    Good content and good commentators - and I like the long format.

    When I was younger - starting when I was a Weblos in the scouts - our troop would make several trips each year to McGuire AFB...

    At the time they had a large training facility for K9 / military dogs.

    We would gear up with body armor - padded and quilted apparel - including a plastic chainmail type layer...

    We would pretend to be escaping prisoners or sappers - we would test the fences and the wire and secure areas - we would try to hide from or evade the dogs...

    Having a 60 to 75 pound Alsatian or German Shepard run you down and hamstring you or clip you from behind can be interesting - having them grab your arm and worry it to take you down or keep you from fleeing or fighting...

    They were still using German commands at that point - the dogs coming from Austria if I recall.

    It instilled me with a healthy respect for the ability of a dog to keep one in check or put a hurt on them.

    They also had an elaborate obstacle course that they ran the dogs through.

    Yeah this dog is bad.  Seen him compete on 'Top Dog', a K-9 & handler competition course on TV.  Guess who kicked butt?

    Just seeing him strutting in those tinted ski googles would intimidate the other dogs. "Yeah, the I'm top dog."
