I refuse to accept the concept of a new normal. Reasonable people are putting up with dictatorial governors for the present time, but patience is wearing thin as the false narrative of the severity of this virus is slowly exposed.

If this is true they will never admit it and we will never be able to prove it. There have been several reports that this was not an engineered virus. They could have been working with a natural virus the same way we do here in the United States and got careless. However it started that doesn't change the facts that they lied about its effects and then delayed sounding the warning. Since we probably will never know the truth our options are limited. We need to stop relying on them for most if not all of our drug and consumer products. Think what a start we could have made if the stimulus package had been for companies to retool and start making products here again. With less than 20% of the initial 2.2 trillion going out as 1 time payments to taxpayers, 20% or so going out to special interests and maybe 10% to small business, that leaves roughly 50% (1.1 trillion) left for corporate america, minus whatever the big banking institutions skim off the top.
Seems like a pretty good start for retooling to begin making products here again.

Buying stuff not made in China is NOT going to happen anytime soon. Most of you know NO ONE IN THE USA made the face masks, plastic gloves, respirators and even most of the drugs we use everyday until the virus hit. We have been buying critical medical supplies from china for several decades now. It was implementation of the War Powers Act to have these items made in the USA again.
If you are reading this post, you are doing so because you are using a computer made in China. Electronics, clothing, auto parts, furniture, carpet, flooring, light bulbs, chemicals and the list is endless.
Undeniable fact is GOVERNMENT AT ALL LEVELS in itself has orchestrated a massive assault on American manufacturing that started 30 years ago. Three undeniable truths as to how this happened:
1. Taxes: Corporate taxes, sales taxes, excise taxes, capitol gains taxes, industrial taxes, inventory taxes, property taxes which are much higher for business, utilities, fees, licences unemployment insurance taxes and the list goes on. China does not oppressive taxation.
2. Regulations. Costs to comply with regulations present a tremendous burden on manufacturing. Also included are labor laws such as FMLA, Unions, and forcing companies to buy healthcare insurance. China and Mexico do not have to bear the costs oppressive regulations borne upon them by government.
3. Cultural animosity towards business and a hostile plaintiff based legal environment. Self explanatory. Rarely a day goes by when we hear about multi-billion settlements at the expense of corp X. "Big Pharma" literally been sued out of the country and people wonder why meds are so expensive. DEMOCRATs push to make gun and ammo manufacturers accountable for misuse of their products. China does not have this problem

Not really. The average American makes far more and spends far more than previous generations. The percentage of income spent on food is far less than past generations. One of the reasons for this is the amount of agricultural sales to China which gives incentive to farmers to produce more at a lower cost. The issue is what and how we buy from China. If the US placed demands of dollar for dollar exchange, THEN the field would be leveled. Americans make a LOT of money that they want to spend superfluously and China says "OK". Americans don't want to or won't work as cheaply as foreigners. That's OUR problem, Americans are spoiled.
China owns one of the biggest pork production entities in the US which is a monumental mistake. No foreign entity should be or have been allowed to own any sort of agriculture production business in the US let alone own the biggest. Smithfield(Chinese ownership) owns entire areas of our country by way of jobs, feed production, and production contracts. Just look at google maps of north MO and southern IA. Most of those hog facilities are owned or contracted to Smithfield. Check the news reports of plant closings in Sioux Falls & Columbus Jct Iowa & the likelihood of closing Milan MO. Those are all Chinese owned and in some cases, the biggest employer in the area.
The US can't stop buying from China w/o devastating entire communities and the ag economy but we can sure as heck hold China accountable for this act of bio-terrorism.0 -

If you look at China from a geological perspective, China has few mineral and petroleum sources. China does not have enough arable land to feed itself. What makes China so powerful: It is labor.......Cheap and efficient labor and people with the will to work 12 or more hours everyday. The Chinese have an incredible work ethic and a culture that promotes it. Then we have the DEMOCRAT party here in the USA which punishes success with taxes and promotes dependence on government.
Contrary to what the media and academia tell you, Chinese work ethic has nothing to do with the type of government they have whether its Communist or capitalist. Hard work is inherent and necessary for survival. These people love to work.
Lastly on the subject of China, look at the position of the DEMOCRAT party on China as well as American manufacturing. The Clinton and Obama eras resulted in massive number of taxes and regulations on American manufacturing. Clinton with taxes and Obama with regs and his "crony capitolism". It was during these administrations we lost unprecedented manufacturing capability to overseas.
Presently, the DEMOCRAT party and their allies in the media are apologists and look out for China's interests. Case in point: Opposing tariffs, defending the WHO, and blaming Trump.
Trump is the only POTUS in years who is doing something about China.0 -

I think a better comparison is "We have met the enemy and it is us". The Chinese culture is very patient and may set goals to be attained 50 years in the future. The western culture wants immediate satisfaction and doesn't think much more than a year ahead. Americans have killed our country with this attitude. The I want my toys now and I don't care if it puts Americans out of work by buying cheap imports attitude. The lets tax evil corporations to death, we'll get our taxes in the short run attitude. Lets add meaningless regulations so that we can increase the number of non-productive government employees needed to enforce them attitude. The we need cheap labor so let's turn a blind eye to illegals even though they stifle wages for citizens and use up public resources attitude. We as a country have not been smart enough to see that China doesn't have to deal with these problems/attitudes and it is giving them a major advantage. This crisis may have been a wake up call but cynical as I am, I don't think that the country will make the temporarily inconvenient choices to enact change.
