I don't get it but I don't get a lot of things.   :)   I will readily say the condition is about as nice as a rifle that old can be.  Do people collect Marlin/J.C. Higgins 22s??  If you are into having one of each Marlin 22s, that is about as good as you will find a Marlin 100.

I love a free market.  Maybe they want one just like Gramps had back when they were kids.  How many people collect "rare" useless junk that doesn't help harvest dinner.

007, thank you!!  That makes a whole lotta sense to me.  I wonder just how high I would go on a nice 1890 Winchester like I got from my grandfather if somehow someone else ended with gramps 1890 other than me.

My dad bought me a Western Auto .22 bolt action when I was a kid. It was stolen when I was 28.
I have never found another like it. I would probably pay quite a bit for one in good shape.

My dad had a mint condition 1890 22 short octagon barrel that he acquired as a by in the late 20 to early 30's.  He didn't tell me where it went but I think he got 5K for it in about 2005.   I got the project 1906, wearing the Remington target barrel I rescued from the trash can.  It's one of my favorite rifles.  Not as nice as the 121 Remington but shoots as good.
