Prayers for my Mom- (Update)
Just got a call, my 90 year old Mom fell. Being taken by Ambulance to a non-local Hospital. Not sure where yet. Prayers asked.

The surgery that was sceduled for tomorrow 6 am, has to be postponed two days for her to come off her blood thinning medication. I just spoke with her. She sounds in good spirits everything considered.

Unfortunately, after the first fall, my mom decided to make a habit of it.

Prayers from here Ken worst time ever to have to go to the the Hospital. My Mom (85) fell last week messed her face up but her eye doc checked her out in the office and told her she would treat everything to avoid sending her to the ER. 0 -
Thank you all VERY much. Mom is still in good spirits and saying she is not in any pain. Just got back from cleaning out her fridge and giving some food away, brought some home. Did whatever dishes were to be done with what I cleaned out. Turned the heat down to about 62° from 74°.figure no sense paying for that. Got all tge garbage out. Surgeon saying it is going to be "a rod and a pin, and that we have a positive prognosis."
Buddy made out like a bandit with all the leftovers I brought back. He just finished some diced bratwurst, diced chicken and rice a roni mixed in with his dried food. He was jumping around while I was preparing it. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots more for him.

Pitcher of ice water - ginger ale pony cans - applesauce - protein shake bottles - chocolate or vanilla Dixie cups - sleep mask - ear plugs - disposable headphones..
Depending on the type of TV and the mount style there may be usb charging cord ports readily available...

going through this is bad enough, can't imagine not beign able to see her face to face, I know it is for her safety but it also has to be pretty lonely for her with no family close. keep close contact with her and her doctors/nurses.. 0 -
Got good news just now from my Sister, who has been talking to the Orthopaedic Surgeon. Luckily the break is not up/near the ball and socket joint. Slightly lower on the Femur, much easier to deal with. Excellent news.
Good prognosis.
I guess, I am the AH, though. I was the first of our Siblings to talk to my Mom, about a Rehab facility for a month or two, to her besides - Gee, I'm going home. Mom understood, we were all, collectively looking out for her best interests.
Personally, I'd like to know what is going on. Don't keep me in the dark. (I know she appreciated it.)

Just out of surgery. Was told it went "perfectly." The good news we had the other day, was it was a break in the upper femur, not the ball and socket joint. Easier to repair and rehab. Rod and a pin inserted. Will be going back to her room within the hour.
I went over yesterday to drop off some essentials ( hearing aid charger, robe, slippers, book, glasses etc.) We had a receptive nurse who agreed to come down meet me outside, and take it up.
We are still searching for and researching rehab facilities.our #1 choice declined to accept her. (Foley center in Blowing Rock.) Not accepting new patients due to virus concerns.
Sister communicated just now has located 3-4 "5 star facilities in the Elizabethton/ Johnson City area. Pursuing those.

great news Ken, on the rehab issue would your mother listen to you or your sister?? I mean actually do the excercises and such needed if she stayed with one of you? I think she would be more comfortable home with family either at one of your houses or her own if one of you all could stay with her, Medicare should send an in home therapist, just another option to think about. a month or 6 weeks in rehab center without family visits is tough on everyone involved. hope all works out best as possible for all involved.. 0 -
I think Hillbillie has an excellent idea if there is someone that could help her with things. That would keep her away from the virus. We had a therapy nurse with my mom and also my wife last summer. The exercises aren't that difficult, unless she has other mobility issues. Being in a familiar enviroment would be a great morale booster and would promote faster healing.I'm glad that everything went well with the surgery.Joe

Sorry to hear about this Ken. I just told my 89 year old mom on the phone what happened to your mom and she said she's going to be praying for her. We're all hoping she pulls thought this and gets back home soon. Prayers sent from everywhere. 0 -

It was recommended to us that due to her age, (90) she go to a professional rehab facility in order to facilitate the best possible outcome. She lives independently and we hope to continue that. My sister who is taking the lead on this, is insistent that that is the course we are going to pursue. We are researching the top tier facilities in this area in order to make that happen.
She will require 24/7 care for at least a month and a half.
PS, my Mom's name is Fran. Short for Frances. Well loved in this community. Fielding calls from all kind of people that know her.

84, Life Care in Banner Elk has top notch rehab, but the my have the same policy as Foley Center.There is a good one in Roan Mtn. I know, they have just cleared 2 beds.

A big part of recovery from this type of incident is the attitude of the I hired party and the nature of their support group / family and friends and neighbors and peers...
Obviously in your mothers case the support network is in place and one could ask for a better foundation of family members proactively concerned and involved - ready to provide assistance...
In addition it sounds like your mom has a positive attitude and is not depressed or afraid or affected by this injury - but seems to be ready to tackle what comes and take it on - certain that it will result in a positive outcome...
Attitude and outlook and state of mind - emotional status and a sharp mind play supremely important roles in recovery...
Sounds like you mom is a trooper and in control of her faculties - and that you and yours have provided all the support possible...
Can't even begin to think of options you have not considered or have covered ahead of time - I cannot imagine a better scenario.
