I'm Confused
For the last two months I have tried to make some sense of this covid19 situation. I have scoured all the news sources from mainstream to the mild to wild conspiracy theories. No one has come up with a viable scenario to explain the outbreak or the worlds reaction to it. If you follow the money, there doesn't appear to be any. If you follow the grab for power it has hardly been successful. The Chinese have turned the world against them and maybe will never achieve their goal of supplanting America as the number 1 financial power. losing tons of money and respect in the process. The countries are closing borders and that sets anyones idea of a one world government back on its heels. Even in our own country, states, counties and even cities are restricting travel and are now starting to split from the Feds about who decides about lifting restrictions. A lot of the billionaire class have lost tons and tons of money with the economy shut down. Industry, retail, energy, agriculture and governments all fall into the losing category. Could all this just boil down to an inept Chinese government trying to save face failing to control an outbreak and equally inept countries not being able to handle the resulting mess? We have plenty of corrupt or just plain stupid characters in this saga. From China to WHO, and a lot of ineffectual politicians none are gaining anything and are being revealed as part of the problem instead of the solution. So they are all losers in this as well. Is this all just a cascading avalanche of errors proving that we aren't as an advanced civilization as we think we are? The world has a crisis and we find out the emperor has no clothes. Bob

I don't know if my choice of the word "fascinating" is proper here but I cannot believe how in just 6 months a disease can go from a single person in a remote corner of the world to reach pert near every corner of it!
It shows just how much interaction there is between human beings in the 21st century!

I think two things. Either Governments know something deadly about this virus they are not telling or they have destroyed the world economy over a bug that has a lower death rate than the flu over nothing. 0 -

Either they aren't telling us something or they are willing to tank the economy in the hopes Trump wont be around for a second term or we are witnessing the wussification of America. Humanity has had plagues before. With increased world travel a virus like this is going to spread from country to country faster than at any other time in our history. With better knowledge and equipment we have more means to mitigate it than in the past. But there are more of us and there is more travel. You use the word inept, perhaps it applies somewhere but I have trouble using it as man kind really can't help or stop everything.
Sometimes stuff just happens. It not only happens to humans it happens to other animals, even plants. Myself, I do not operate in the "someone must always be blamed" crowd. We will be able to look at this and see where there are things, that if done differently, would have helped. But history is always like that, and so is life.
For those that think this is timed to hurt the president. Exactly what would be, or would have been, a good time to have a pandemic? Things like this have happened through out the history of man, exactly when is a good time, or the least worse time for it to happen.3 -
My biggest concern is that by withdrawing into our respective "safe spaces" herd immunity is not built. Should we have treated this much as we have other c-viruses in the past I think yes, it would be more widespread. This in turn may have shown a flattened ratio, i.e. instead of 3% death rate (just a WAG) it may have been closer to a .5% death rate. Forcing folks to quarantine kept them out of the public for the most part but I am wondering how many still visited friends/family especially in urban areas. This may have actually increased the spread. As for this being a democratic ploy to unseat POTUS. I'm sure that Italy, the UK and other countries have no interest in joining a global cabal to unseat one man. Illuminati? And does this help or hurt POTUS? 0 -

Perhaps I didn't explain myself well. I am frustrated by the amount of wild and incomprehensible theories and assigning of blame that has cropped up. Everything from the new world order conspiracy theories to communist threat to political gain. Even the theories that blame things like the 5g network for spreading the virus. To me it proves that we are still a primitive society that must explain natural phenomena with superstition, but our superstitions have evolved from black cats to technological or political misbeliefs. Perhaps this has been a hubris stifling event in that as a society we will lose a little bit of our sense of invincibility and entitlement. Tell small children not to touch a hot pot on the stove and some still will and get burned. Tell people in the hardest hit areas like New York or Detroit not to assemble in groups and some still will thereby spreading the virus. In that case I am not sure if it is immaturity or stupidity rearing their ugly heads. Those same people will then justify their actions by spouting one of the aforementioned theories. So no political theories on my part. Just mankind stumbling along doing what it does best. Wasting energy and time trying to assign blame while still watching the problem unfold. I would go out on a limb and say this Covid damdemic is nature at work.
BUT in this country it has become a "lets get Trump"direct assault.

I wish I trusted Government as much as some of you do, but I don't, it is a lesson learned over time. In my 62 short years on this earth I have learned that Government is as screwed up as a soup sandwich. Little they do is cost effective or done without political, financial or power gains. Add the corruption of DC into the equation and we have what we have.
All of us are impacted by this mess either our livelihoods are in turmoil or by being told this killer China Virus is the end of days scenario. I don't want China Virus, therefore I stay home. I am much better able to handle this type of ordeal than most Americans, quadruple that for urban areas with 3 people in a 900 square foot apartment on the 17th floor.3 -

Totally unrestricted travel is the prime vector. A population of "barely surviving geezers" in many of the more progressive countries gives the disease a chance to kill thousands. High density population centers (big cities) and industries utilizing closely packed workers have propagated the disease to pandemic proportions in record time. 0 -

Their "beta" test saw how quick and wide it spread. Now 2.0 will be the real killer. With folks in Wuhan are now freely going to places with dormant virus or mutated virus.
