    While I voted for Trump last time, and unless something better presents itself this time, I will again - Trump needs to handle these things on a nature more indicative of his current position as POTUS, and stay the hell off Twitter.

    The guy can't seem to keep his mouth shut, when it counts.

    I didn't have that take on Trumps retweeting someone else's post calling for firing Fauci. The rest of the tweet explained Fauci not considering the virus as big a threat as it turned out to be. Trump was justifying both his travel ban and why he did not act sooner to shut down the country. Pretty much all the doctors, W.H.O., and the Chinese were all downplaying how serious the problem was and that is what he based his decision on. Obviously with more information both Fauci and Trump changed their minds and acted accordingly. Obviously by taking someone else's tweet out of context the media can attack Trump once again. I think Trump has done well but do wish he would shut the hell up most of the time and not give the media these openings to attack. Bob

    The Chinese Scientist announced in the end of January of The Wuhan asymptomatic characteristics. They both were wrong to say publicly there was no danger. Over Two weeks later they announce Isolation orders.

    I actually agree with you. I also am cruising the forum on my tablet and for some reason when I do an edit on the tablet it just disapears. I had included an edit directing my response to Serfs original post. I also said his post heading wasn't accurate because it was a Trump supporter calling for Faucis firing. I actually read about this tweet on a couple of mainstream media sites earlier today. Serfs links reporting leaves out some of the story, but haters gotta hate. Maybe I should get off my lazy butt and turn on the computer so my posts would come out as I intend. Bob

     Well they spoke up a whole two weeks before President Trump enacted his Isolation orders. So Facui was right in saying it would have saved lives and that is why He can't fire him right now,maybe in 30 days you Think? Having known it was asymptomatic and not acting at that time after January 26th is the crux of the whole debate here regardless who posted Fire Facui now.
      Inconsistency in a news story does not change the narrative at hand other then that Trump not acting on his supporter wishes.

      The edit that counts is one, we should have isolated much sooner with no pushback and two,now with us having much  more hotspots to fight now to get back to the new normal. it's never going to be the same.

                  So is the two-week wait before isolation better than the two-month wait to ease up on the isolation? Plus all the deaths they could have prevented. If Trump opens up on May 1st it may make or break him,we will see.  Sometimes more pain doesn't mean more gain. Trump is egoistical and a prima donna . 
                      You are fired and let's make a deal in The apprentice series doe not work well in politics in my opinion. I too do not want Biden to become The president and cause a civil-war but that's where it's headed if he keeps this personas going.

    There is no proof that government mandated isolation is saving a significant number of lives, serf.
    It is most likely saving some, as common sense would suggest, but we do not have a control sample with which to compare.  Other than, of course, those areas with little infection and little or no mandated social distancing.
    Washington State, as an example, had bent the curve prior to our Governor's implementation of closing non-essential businesses.  This was a result of common sense actions by the individual citizens, the place were this sort of thing needs to be done in the first place.

    Trump does not have the Constitutional authority to shut down Henry's Bike Shop in Duluth.  (Some say that even Henry's Governor does not have such authority, but that is not a popular discussion at this point.)  

    If Trump would have tried to shut down the economy in mid-January, he would have been excoriated by every Governor in the nation, Democrat or Republican.  Our Federalist System puts the responsibility to act on these matters with the governing body as close to the individual as is possible.  This makes a lot of sense, as the proper action will be much different in a town of 1,000 people than it will be in a city of 5,000,000.

    The restart will by necessity be a function of Governors as well.  The CDC and the Trump administration can provide guidance or suggestions, but neither have the authority to countermand a Governor's decision as to when or when not to re-open a state's businesses.
    Individual Mayors and Governors are in the best position to make these decisions for their Cities and their States.  This is exactly what our President has allowed to happen.  This is how it should be Constitutional, and more importantly, how it should be from best practices standpoint as well.

    Agree, the less federal involvement the better. Local and state government officials should control and determine what  is best for their population . Our county is mainly a tourist trap, second homes aplenty. The county officials have all but shut down over night stays and and if you come to your "second home" you are asked to say shut in for 14 days. Now enforcing this is another thing but if all would follow common sense it would be a simple task to accomplish. Common sense, what the heck is that?

    Well stated Don. The president has said the federal government is there to support the states and not to try to manage each States handling of this outbreak. Some governors who are either inexperienced or inept wanted the feds to take over. Governor Gretchen of Michigan is one of them. There is a petition to recall her that already has more than 165 thousand signatures. Schumer is one of Trumps biggest foes but his state has received more than any other from the feds. Trump can't win, can he? Bob

    The President with Dr. Fauci both failed to grasp simply logic knowing what was at stake, in My opinion and Unfortunately President Obama has a video on line describing exactly what was going to happen. I will not post it here. But it's damning to think  that we the people have been hoodwinked again. Crowd Psychology is killing us and our collective memory is lacking in leadership and wisdom to lead the flock to peace and posterity.

                            Playing with Bio-weapons with the communist was stupid and a travesty of justice.
                                      A.I. will be used in the coming paradigm after this pandemic it's inevitable.

    At the time of the statements, serf, there had not been one death in the US attributed to the virus.
    Let me repeat:  The firs Covid-19 attributed death in the United States was reported on 29 February, 2020.
    There was never a statement of 'no danger'.  There were many statements of 'little danger to the public at large'.
    Well, considering the facts of what has happened so far, there is still 'little danger to the public at large'.   The danger is when healthy people carelessly and thoughtlessly bring it into old and/or unhealthy people.

    ABC news jumped on Florida Governor DeSantis this past Thursday or Friday when he stated that to his knowledge, no one under the age of 25 had died from the virus.  While I thought that a fairly stupid thing to say, ABC jumped on it and proved him wrong by citing 8 cases where people under 25 had died.
    8 cases only.  A little further research showed that the WA Post had found 9 people under 20 who had died.  
    The following is taken for the WA Post on 8 April, less than a week ago:
    The risk appears to rise with every decade of age. The Post found at least 45 deaths among people in their 20s, at least 190 deaths among people in their 30s, and at least 413 deaths among people in their 40s.

    If we add the 9 under 20 years of age, this gives us at grand total of 657 people under the age of 50 who had died by 8 April, when we had approximately 15,000 deaths in this country.  There is little doubt the the vast majority of these had something significantly wrong with them which allowed the virus to kill them.  There are outliers where healthy folks die, but it is very abnormal, at least with what we have seen so for.

    So, I repeat, throughout the month of February, even with asymptomatic infection and transmission, there was no reason to believe that the risk was not low for the general population.  This is confirmed by the fact that right now, on 13 April, 2020, the risk remains low for the general population.
    I don't want to see people get sick.  I do not want to see people die.
    Most importantly, however, I do not want to see the spirit of my country die because we have gone bat-meat crazy in our reaction to this virus.  Closing the country down before the first death had occurred would have been just such a response.
