Does Current water treatment methods eliminate SARS-CoV-19?

Here's a big question no one is talking about.They state to be safe doing no showering should be considered.

The novel coronavirus could also colonise biofilms that line drinking water systems, making showerheads a possible source of aerosolised transmission. This transmission pathway is thought to be a major source of exposure to the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease, for example.

The environmental engineers suggest that existing water and wastewater treatment infrastructure should be upgraded in outbreak hotspots that are possibly exposed to coronavirus from places such as hospitals, community clinics and nursing homes. For example, energy-efficient, light-emitting, diode-based, ultraviolet point-of-use systems could disinfect water before it enters the public treatment system.

    Virus cant live very long unless it is in a host cell. Chlorine used in H2O  treatment will kill the virus.

    Here where I live the mayor covered up an instance where a worker reported that the city failed To keep an accurate percentage of chlorine in drinking water,just saying.

    The mayor commented that many of the testing sites with lower chlorine levels are in Houston’s northwest sector and said it is possible the construction on Highway 290 is a factor because it entails temporarily shutting off water lines.

    Additionally, Turner also noted that the low chlorine levels might be, to a certain extent, a side effect of Hurricane Harvey because they are also more prone to happen when there is standing water.

    Sounds like a simple fix to me. Shock the system with a little extra chlorine now and then. Don't think this will be a major worry. Covid19 is no more resistant than any other virus to sanitizing procedures. Bob

    It has been many years since I studied micro biology in college but back then it was taught that a virus can only propagate on a living host.   Back then (ca. 1980) a virus was not even considered to be a living organism.  A lot more has been learned since then but the true facts about virus's are still quite a mystery. Or so it seems.  Most of what I keep reading lately is mainly speculation and a lot of different timespans for this tiny specs danger to infect humans!  

    Has anyone considered that when you go out in public to shop etc. and you protect yourself with a face mask and gloves, get exposure from moisture particles from a distant sneeze or cough, get home doing all you can to strip everything off your body.  Jump in the shower and the spray hits your hair that has been exposed!     

    I don't mean to sound paranoid here but unless we all own full body protection suits like lab techs wear, we are screwed.   

    I decided quite a while ago to put my faith in God and Jesus and let my destiny go where they lead me. My time here has always been in their hands.  I will obey the laws of the land and not be foolish and hurt other people.  There is just no way one can truly protect themselves from this menace if you are unfortunate enough to run into it.  

    I know the rules here about religion but hopefully with it being Easter, my one statement will be left to give others hope.

    While I think the water supply concern is a little over the top It is quite contagious. If you don't agree then please explain your reasoning how we have had over a half million confirmed cases with the country pretty much on lockdown and practicing social distancing. Keep in mind we have only tested a few million to find those half million cases. There may be many more. Bob

    I thought that the agitation of H20 is one of the major reasons the virus shell is destroyed in hand washing, I don't think its going to become a water borne issue but perhaps PH can be of some service

    It's contagious like the rest of the viruses we get infected with.   This one is contagious in the same forms as the flu.   You are not going to contract it out of your drinking water.

    Yes, the agitation & flushing is the important part of washing our hands with water.  But, if you have scrubbed in for surgery, you would know that you should use a brush on your cuticles & under your nails, as microorganisms are hiding there.  If you are worried about critters in your pipes, just run water for 10 minutes any time you return after an absence of > a few days.

      Like I said before is how well they monitor and maintain the water system and I posted how My water supply was lacking in the past. If you shower and make an aerosol droplets then it could be a possibility if the water authority failed to keep the standard
      in place. I said nothing about drinking it.

               In contrast with UV, a chlorination system kills viruses and other microorganisms chemically. This type of system continuously adds chlorine (in liquid or solid form) to the water through a feed system. Because sediment in the water could interfere with disinfection, a filter should be placed before the chlorine injector. Chlorine is consumed as it kills viruses and other organisms in the water and also as it reacts with other impurities (such as iron or organic matter). To ensure adequate disinfection, enough chlorine needs to be added so that there is a small amount left over after it is consumed. However, this residual chlorine can affect the taste of the water, so it may be desirable to remove it before drinking.

    Chlorination also requires a certain amount of contact time for it to kill microorganisms (usually 30 minutes). This is why water is often stored in a large holding tank or run through a series of coiled pipes after being chlorinated. Chlorine systems must be maintained to ensure that they function properly, and the chlorine supply must be replenished periodically.

    I use a Big Berkey even with the spring water off the Mountain. I also bath in the river using Dial Gold. Stay safe and clean.
